IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this digital era, technological advancements has revolutionized our lives and numerous people believe that the traditional newspapers will disappear from the world in the future, as a result of free access to the online world. I partially agree with this notion, however I believe that printed form of social media such as newsapapers and books will important for a significant amount of individuals.
On the one hand, printed newspaper are likely to disappear. The primary reason is convenience and cost. Online news are instantly accessible on smartphones, provides updates and mostly is free of charge. For instance, younger generation are mostly glued to the screen and prefer to bowse apps like BBC and CNN rather waiting for the morning newspaper. Consequently, it can poses serious health problems. For instance, excessive exposure to screen has bad impact on user eyes. Printed apers are outdated by the time they are dilevered and require payment.
On the other hand, I disagree that printed books will become compeletly extinct. Unlike newspapers, books offer a tactile experience that many readers cherish. The feel of paper and the absence of screen glare make reading more immersive. Furthermore, printed books hold sentimental and aesthetic value. People love to collect first editions and build personal libraries. For instance, educational institutes and older generation still prefer printed books.
In conclusion, although digital media is avialable free on the internet, however I believe printed media has far more significant advantages and it will not disappear entirely due to their sentimental value and irreplaceable sensory.
