IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays because of advancement and rapid growth of social media, most of the things are shifting online. Newspaper and books are also one of them, in the near future it is expected that no individual would invest on physical newspapers and books just because they get the access of the content online. I would partially agree to this and following paraghraphs would this statement more in depth.
Firstly, I would talk about why it is likely that evrything can shift online resulting in no sale of newspapers and books. The best advantage online service provides is convenience, a person may not need to phsyically travel to buy a paper or book, the same content is very easily available on the device they hold in their hands. Moroever, cosuming content online is much more cheaper than to invest in phsycial ones. The young audience and youth highly rely on social media and stays updated so they will surely avoid wasting their money on a newspaper.
On the other hand, in my opinion newspaper and books won't really vanish from the market because elderly people are still dependent on printed newspapers and majority does not have the access to internet. Similarly, there is particular audience who prefers buying a book and reading it rather than consuming the content online, reading through books give then exclusive experience and sense of satisfaction which they can't really get on online devices.
To conclude, in think audience who would buy printed newspapers and books may gradually decrease but would not go extint because of the preference of old people and the book worms who love collecting physical print of novels and stories.
