Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a partial agreement regarding whether printed newspapers and books will disappear due to free online reading. You outline reasons why print is viewed as a waste and highlight the socioeconomic impact on delivery workers and the printing industry. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs where points like convenience and job losses lack deeper extension. Furthermore, it is important to note the negative impact of the word count: the response contains 234 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum requirement. This under-length issue prevents a fully developed response, leading to a band score of 5.0 for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic overall structure with four distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. There is a general attempt at organization using cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, paragraphing and logical progression are hindered by abrupt shifts in ideas and incomplete sentences, particularly at the very end of the essay where the conclusion trails off mid-sentence. Additionally, referencing is sometimes unclear, and cohesive devices are occasionally used mechanically or inappropriately, such as the transition into the second body paragraph. This places the performance firmly at a band 5.0 for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it is limited and repetitive throughout the essay. You make frequent attempts at less common words, but these are often accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'mordern time', 'creats with printing ink', 'pressing centre', and 'loss their job'. Words are also misused grammatically, as seen with 'soucres to reading' and 'getting money from printing industry'. While your meaning remains generally understandable despite these lexical slips, the range is restricted and errors cause some difficulty, justifying a band score of 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense and agreement issues like 'In recent year, many people imagine', 'printed newspaper will be destory', and 'people can not able to make'. Sentences often lack structural accuracy, and the final sentence is incomplete. Punctuation and article usage also need attention. While simple sentences are generally controlled, the high frequency of errors in complex attempts and the incomplete ending mean the performance aligns with band 5.0 descriptors.
