IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Newspapers and books provide information about the world. These things play a crucial role in our lives. It is often argued that in the future, people will not purchase newspapers because of the popularity of electronic devices. Even though some people might disagree with this statement, I partially agree because it depends on people's choices.
On the one hand, newspapers and books provide more authentic information. This is because people can find the sources of information in books and newspapers. Moreover, these things do not affect our eyes as much as electronic devices. For example, in the USA, more than 30% of older people read newspapers and books because they believe these resources are better for their health. Hence, newspapers and books provide significant advantages.
On the other hand, reading books and newspapers online has many advantages. People can read these things anytime and anywhere. They can also access these materials free of cost. Furthermore, online resources provide information more quickly. For instance, online books do not require physical space because everything is in one device. People can save many books in one folder and find them very easily. Hence, online resources provide information anytime.
However, I believe that both types of resources are important because people have different preferences. Some people prefer physical books and newspapers, while other people prefer online resources because they are convenient and easy to access.
In conclusion, I believe that newspapers and books are better for reducing screen time, while electronic newspapers and books are easy to access and require less physical space. Both types of resources have their own advantages.
