IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In this technoworld everything is available on internet . Many people belive that in future books and newspaper's trend will vainish and people will be able to get any news or book on internet. I strongly agree with this view because it is very convenient for them.
To begin with, the reason behind this is up-to-date news. To elaborate, in newspapers, news often print late instead of internet. For example, news of today will print tommorrow but on internet we can get that news in one click. Moreover, it is convenient for individuals. To expalin, we can connect with the World in just a click, but carry to books and newspaper can be tricky. For example, we can not carry every type of books like novel, dramas but with the help of internet we can read easily.
Additionally, nowadays fake news often printed in news papers. After read that news we believe that it is true but on internet we can search about this like it is true or not. Furthermore, we can read books any time and anywhere, such as if we have reading habit and want to read a new book in night, so we can get on internet instead of go to market. Many adults have reading habit on travelling but carrying books on travel will be tough, as a result E books can be be benefecial.
Thus it can be concluded that, with the help of internet we can connect with the World and get latest news and read books without paying, instead of to buy newspaper and books.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The candidate addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, stating that they strongly agree with the statement. Ideas are selected and supported with reasons, such as the speed of online news and the convenience of e-books over carrying physical copies. However, the development of ideas tends to be repetitive and slightly superficial, lacking the deeper elaboration characteristic of higher bands. For instance, the argument regarding fake news is underdeveloped and somewhat confusingly integrated. Despite these limitations, the response successfully satisfies the prompt requirements, placing it firmly at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the body paragraphs are structured around central topics. However, the use of cohesive devices is frequently mechanical and repetitive, relying on standard formulas like 'To begin with', 'To elaborate', and 'Additionally'. Paragraphing is attempted, but some paragraphs are disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as ambiguous pronoun usage (e.g., 'we can search about this'). Progression is visible, but the logical flow between sentences is sometimes hindered by awkward transitions, reflecting the descriptors for Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic arguments about internet usage, e-books, and traditional media. However, the range is limited and repetition is common (e.g., repeating 'convenient', 'internet', and 'reading habit'). There are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'technoworld', 'belive', 'vainish', 'tommorrow', 'expalin', and 'benefecial'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the score from reaching Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional clauses ('if we have reading habit and want to read...') and relative clauses. However, control over grammar and punctuation is weak, with frequent errors including missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and tense confusion (e.g., 'news often print late', 'carry to books', 'After read that news'). Punctuation is also problematic in places, with misplaced commas and spacing errors. Because these frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader, the performance aligns with Band 5.0.
