IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that printed newspapers or books will not be bought by anyone because everything is available on the internet and they will have access to any books or newspapers free of cost in the future. I largely disagree that online platforms for read books will totally diminish the traditional printed world, as printed newspapers and books allow people to read book without any distraction in peaceful area and not all well-known books available without paying anything on the internet.

To commence with the agreement, e-books and e-magazines are convenient. In other words, online based books and newspapers allow individuals to read anything anywhere or anytime, even if they are travelling, the factor they need is only the internet without carrying any book. Thus, this creates easy accessibility of any kind of books.

Shifting towards view of disagreement, it is believed that with emerging online platforms or websites for reading books, this will not completely disappear the printed books industry. The first and foremost reason is that traditional books will always an important value in reader's life because a person concentrates more effectively, when they read anything from book in a peaceful area. Hence, on electronic devices, there are several distractions like notifications so that focus may interrupt while reading on the internet.

Furthermore, e-books and online companies will create this into a business so not everything will available free of cost. To explicate this, companies will pay for access a well-named book on the internet. Apart from this, companies may start payment subscriptions, premiums or vouchers to read anything online. For example, in Japan, some online platforms get payment to give the right to read any book online. Therefore, the traditional book industry will not fully replaced with online reading platforms without paying.

In conclusion, although individuals will be able to read anything they want online because e-books are convenient and easy accessible, the internet will not fully diminished the printing industry as it provides more focused environment and not everything will available without paying.
