IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the future, it is possible that people will incresingly choose digital newspapers and boks instead of printed materials. Although online sources are convinient and often free, I disagree with the view that printed newspapers and books will completely disappear.

there are several reasons why digital reading has become so popular. First, the internet provides people with instant access to a huge amount of information. For example, people can read news articles, download books and access acadamic materials usind mobiles and computers. This is particularly convinient because digital content can be accessed almost anywhere and does not require physical storage. In addition, many websites offer free articles and electronic books, making online reading an affordable option for many people.

However, printed materials still have important advantages. One reason is that many people prefer the experience of reading a physical book. Unlike electronic devices, printed books do not require batteries and are less likely to cause any distractions from notifications. Futhermore, some readers find it easier to concentrate and remember information when reading from paper. Printed newspaper can also remain attractive to certain groups, especially older people who are accustomed to traditional forms of media.

Another important point is that not everything avaliable online is geniunely free. High-quality newspaper, resaech paper and books are often protected by paywalls. Therefore, people may still purchase printed publications when they want reliable or specialised information.

In conclusion, although online reading will probably continue to grow because of its convience and accessibility, I do not believe that printed newspaper ans books will disapper completely. Both formats are likely to coexist, with people choosing between them according to their individuals needs and preferences.
