Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student addresses the prompt by taking a clear, supportive position on the statement that printed materials will be replaced by free online content. All parts of the prompt are covered, and the writer considers both the economic and convenience factors of digital media, alongside a brief nod to health counterarguments. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the points about saving time and money are restated across multiple paragraphs without being significantly extended or deeply explored. This places the response comfortably at Band 5.0, where relevant ideas are presented, but some are under-developed and the overall argumentation remains somewhat basic and formulaic.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is organized into clear paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which provides a basic overall structure. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, repetitive referencing, and a lack of smooth flow between sentences. Cohesive devices are often used mechanically or inaccurately, such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'Addmittedly' (a misspelling of admittedly), which creates a choppy reading experience. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'this trends become' or 'this view also safe students money'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak. This corresponds to a Band 5.0 descriptor for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited range of vocabulary that is minimally adequate for addressing the topic, utilizing words such as 'society', 'technology', 'digital content', and 'smartphones'. However, there are numerous noticeable word-choice, collocation, and morphological errors throughout the text. Examples include 'it is often argue' instead of argued, 'printed newspaper' instead of newspapers, 'no longer buy' instead of bought, 'safe their time' instead of save, 'very cheaper' instead of much cheaper, and 'diverse effect' instead of adverse effect. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and prone to frequent structural errors when attempting complex forms. Examples of persistent errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('this trends become', 'technology became'), tense inconsistencies ('they cannot spent'), missing articles ('on internet', 'on acedemy'), and incorrect preposition usage ('on online' instead of online). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and periods. Because errors are frequent and occasionally obscure meaning, requiring effort from the reader to parse the intended message, this performance meets the criteria for Band 4.5, rounded to Band 5.0 for overall comprehensibility.
