IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In future, people would not buy printed newspaper or books the reason is everything will be on online for free. this could be helpful for so many people but there might be some people who would not agree with this statement. This essay would argue both ways,i do not agree with this statement.

if the materials become online for free that will be more easier to get. By internet at any place students can read their books and people can get updated news at any time of the day.everyone uses phone nowdays ,so that reason only using phone people can get any information..moreover it is more convinient and availble and easier way .

on the other hand, there are so many people who love to read paper books and newspaper.Reading printed newspaper is a part of elderly citizens. there are so many people whom are not comfortable and used to with using digital devices.for them it will be unfair and could be boring .and thee can be any internet issue or website issue in that only depending on online based materials could be unavaible.

in conclusion,in future people will not buy printed books and newspaper cause eerything will be online for free, which i disagree. if everything depend on online based then things will be easier to get, less time sufficient. on the other hand it could be boring for those who are not used to use devices.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt only partially and presents a position, though it is somewhat repetitive, stating that everything will be free online and that the author disagrees. The ideas presented are limited and under-developed, lacking detailed extension or well-supported arguments. For instance, the mention that elderly citizens love paper books is stated simply without sufficient elaboration. Additionally, the response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, falling seventeen words short of the required two hundred and fifty words, which further restricts the depth of the task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation evident with the use of basic paragraphs, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on 'on the other hand' and 'there are so many people'. Paragraphing is attempted to separate different viewpoints, but referencing within and between sentences is not always clear, leading to a choppy flow that struggles to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'more easier', 'convinient', 'availble', and 'less time sufficient', which occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. Spelling mistakes are also present throughout the text, reflecting a basic range of lexical items with insufficient control over less common vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside poorly controlled attempts at complex forms. Frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and capitalization are apparent, such as missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and after full stops, incorrect prepositions ('on online', 'used to with'), and faulty subject-verb agreement ('there can be any internet issue... depending on online based materials could be unavaible'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader.
