In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Development in the digital screens affect many sectors of people lives. Some people argue that selling physical newspapers or books will decline because they can access them online for free. I believe that this viewpoint may be partially true, and i will discus that in the following essay.

The wide availability of digital library affect the selling of printed books. People currently able to access a signigicant number of books, research and newspapers throughout digitaly because of the avialability of the Interent and Televisions. For example, students can read biology books on on the free digital library online without the need to buy it physically from book store. At the same time, people now prefer to watch newspaper on Televisions at home as it more convenience than going out to purchase physically printed newspaper. As a result, of this invaluable new access to information digitaly, nobady will tend to buy books or newspaper. However, some type of books not avialable on digital library. For instance, new release medical book on human anatomy may not be available for free, which may require to purchase it only in printed form, as the digital form based on printed version. Therefore, printed version may not disappeare from the market and people will still need it.

On the other hand, physically printed books may not available in all digital library. When writers publish their books they tend to make it printed form, as this allow them to sell it in different country, whareas digital books allow all people to access it for free. therefore, some books will not avialable in digital form. For instance, dentistry books are very rare to find in digital library, because authers charge a high cost on them. This will push student to search for them as ptinted form to access the information, which require to spent thousnds of dollars to buy them. If those book availble as PDF format no body will need to buy them, thus the printed form will disappeare.

In conclusion, while widespread avialability of digital access to printed information may reduce the amount on mony people spend, some printed version still not available on digital library and the need to buying them phyically will secure their availabily in the store over the time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, presenting a position that lacks clarity and sufficient development. While the writer attempts to discuss whether physical books and newspapers will disappear due to free online content, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the argument regarding medical or dentistry books being unavailable online relies on repetition rather than expansion, stating that they are rare or expensive without thoroughly exploring broader economic or cultural factors affecting publishing. To reach the next level, the writer needs to present a fully developed position throughout the essay, extending and supporting all main ideas with more relevant examples and deeper analysis rather than repeating similar points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some organization, attempting a four-paragraph structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but it lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, yet the internal flow within paragraphs feels disjointed due to repetitive arguments and mechanical transitions, such as the frequent use of 'However,' and 'On the other hand,' which do not always connect opposing logical arguments smoothly. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, making it hard to follow the exact progression of thought. To achieve a higher standard, the writer must ensure that information and ideas are logically sequenced with a clear progression throughout, employing a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices without overusing formulaic links.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic meaning regarding digital versus printed media. The response contains noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'signigicant', 'avialability', 'Interent', 'Televisions' (used in place of screens or broadcasts), 'whareas', 'authers', and 'mony'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'anatomy' or 'dentistry books', are hindered by these lexical inaccuracies. To move up, the writer needs to expand their lexical range and demonstrate greater precision and control over word choice, collocation, and spelling so that communication is smooth and natural throughout.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response employs a limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside a few faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly regarding article usage ('a signigicant number', 'on on the free digital library'), subject-verb agreement ('Development in the digital screens affect', 'some type of books not avialable'), plurals, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns ('access them online for free', 'search for them as ptinted form'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to produce a greater variety of complex sentence forms with improved accuracy, ensuring better control over basic sentence mechanics and grammatical agreements.
