IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In contemporary society, many people believe that with the following time people would be more interested to read everything on social media rather than paying for printed newspaper or articles. I strongly agree with this statement in subsequent paragraph, I will mention why i agree with this prediction.
It is worth noting that technology is advancing rapidly and becoming increasingly widespread across the world. As a result, many aspects of our lives, including the nature of employment, are being transformed by artificial intelligence and other digital tools. People are often highly committed to their professional responsibilities, leaving them with limited time to read traditional newspapers and books. Consequently, many individuals prefer more convenient forms of digital content, such as e-books and online videos, which allow them to access information and entertainment more easily within their busy schedules.
On the other hand, newspaper takes more time to provide with the actual information that we want. however, we can easily get access to the credible gist on social media within some minutes its more convenient and less time taking. Furthermore, the growing popularity of digital media can be attributed to its convenience and accessibility. Unlike traditional newspapers and printed books, e-books, online articles, podcasts, and videos can be accessed anytime and from almost anywhere using smartphones, tablets, or computers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt only partially, and the length requirement is not met as the essay falls well short of the 250-word minimum. While you state a clear position that you strongly agree with the statement, the ideas presented are somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, you mention that people have limited time due to professional responsibilities, but this point is not fully expanded to explain why free online content will completely replace paid printed materials. Furthermore, the body paragraphs contain some contradiction or confusion, such as starting a paragraph with 'On the other hand' when you previously stated you strongly agree with the prompt. To reach a higher level, you need to write more than 250 words and extend your main ideas with more detailed explanations and relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some overall organisation, but the progression of ideas is not entirely clear. You attempt to use cohesive devices and transition phrases, but some are used inaccurately or inappropriately, such as 'On the other hand' used to introduce further supporting arguments rather than a counter-argument. Paragraphing is attempted, with an introduction and body paragraphs, but the structure feels slightly disjointed due to abrupt shifts and missing linking phrases. Referencing can also be repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic conjunctions. To improve in this area, you should ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic, use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally, and make sure your transitions accurately reflect the logical relationship between your sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary range used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary society' and 'artificial intelligence', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'with the following time' instead of 'over time' or 'in the future', and 'less time taking' instead of 'less time-consuming'. Additionally, phrases like 'credible gist' show awkward phrasing. These lexical errors sometimes cause slight difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary with greater precision, pay closer attention to natural collocations, and minimize word choice errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You display a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple and moderately complex sentences. When you attempt more complex structures, they often contain grammatical errors, such as in the opening sentence: 'many people believe that with the following time people would be more interested to read...', which exhibits faulty verb tense consistency and awkward phrasing. There are frequent errors in punctuation, prepositions, and clause structures, such as run-on sentences like '...within some minutes its more convenient and less time taking.' These errors require some effort from the reader to decode your meaning. To improve, you need to practice forming complex sentences accurately, ensure correct subject-verb agreement, and pay closer attention to punctuation.
