Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position agreeing with the statement, noting that technology makes content easily available on phones. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion regarding newspapers shifting to websites and companies making profits through public engagement is introduced but lacks sufficient expansion or specific examples. Similarly, the counterargument about print press closing and workers becoming jobless is mentioned briefly in a single paragraph without being fully explored. While the main parts of the task are touched upon, the lack of thorough explanation and extension prevents the response from achieving a higher level of task fulfillment. To improve, the writer needs to select fewer main points and elaborate on them more fully with relevant explanations or supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some basic organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, establishing a general framework for the argument. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on basic transitions like 'To commence with' and 'Further explaining my views'. Furthermore, referencing and paragraphing lack precision; ideas related to advantages, disadvantages, and environmental impacts are grouped somewhat haphazardly rather than being developed in a structured sequence. To progress, the writer should ensure that each paragraph has a distinct central topic and use a wider, more accurate variety of cohesive ties to link ideas smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'engagment', 'distributor', and 'environment', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word form, spelling, and word choice that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. For example, terms like 'benifits' and 'papper' contain spelling errors, while phrases like 'printed newspaper or book will be not bought' and 'sum of premium' demonstrate awkward collocation and lexical control. To reach the next level, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to spelling and word formation, and ensure that vocabulary choices accurately reflect natural collocations in English.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement, articles, missing prepositions, and run-on sentences. For example, phrases such as 'newspaper or book will be not bought', 'everybody in this era has a mobilephone', and 'Press will not goes to printing process' contain basic structural and tense inaccuracies. Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods and incorrect comma placements, also detract from the overall clarity. To achieve a higher score, the writer must exercise better control over basic sentence patterns, improve grammatical accuracy across verb forms and articles, and minimize frequent structural errors.
