Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response only partially addresses the prompt and fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, stopping at just 84 words. Because the text is severely underdeveloped, the main position regarding whether people will stop buying printed materials and read online for free is barely explored. While the writer touches on the idea that companies will face issues, the arguments lack extension and support, leading to a minimal response to the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text presents some organisation with basic paragraphing, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Although the writer attempts to introduce a contrasting point using phrases like 'But on the other hand', cohesive devices are largely inadequate or mechanical. Referencing and logical sequencing between the introduction and the subsequent paragraphs are faulty, making the overall arrangement somewhat disjointed and difficult to follow smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, featuring basic terms such as 'modern era', 'newspapers or books', and 'companies'. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'will closed' (which involves a word form issue, though treated here as a lexical limitation) and repetitive phrasing like 'read news and books online without paying'. This minimally adequate range causes some difficulty for the reader and lacks the flexibility needed for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors. There are notable grammatical mistakes, including missing articles ('In future no one buy'), missing auxiliary verbs and subject-verb agreement issues ('people dont want', 'companies will closed'). These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the formation of successful complex sentence forms.
