IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In this evolutionary world, people are less likely to buy published newspapers or books because all the information they require will be available online free of cost. In my perspective, people are already switched to online platforms for learning and gathering information and i do agree with the statement. In this essay i will examine all possible reasons to explain why i agree with the statement.
These days, people prioritise convenience, ease and authenticity. Although 18th and 19th decade were the golden ages for the printing press and published books, it used to be the most reliable source of information but in the rapidly evolving world technology and online data has take place, its much more diverse with multiple articles on just one topics. Individuals now has a palenty of information on their one click. It is now very easy to cross check the facts and can have different perspectives. Furthermore, now students and prefessionals have no need to carry heavy books and article they can aceess them by their smartphones in the form of pdfs which is more secure and sustainable.
Another significant reason of destruction of printing press or paper industry in that, every news or information come online within no time, live broadcasts help people see the situation live on their phones or televisions plus viewers can see the visuals with newsreporting. I believe its a huge advantage of news media that a lay person can understand whats happening around hes don't have to read to get to know the current affairs.
In conclusion, despite the fact that newspaper ruled previous decades but in coming years will replace newspapers with electronicmedia because it provides more authentic information with visual representation and live streamings and its more convenient

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the prompt that people will read online without paying in the future. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the convenience of online data and the shift away from printed materials, which satisfies the requirements for a middle band. However, some ideas remain under-developed or lack sufficient extension. For instance, the point regarding the destruction of the paper industry is introduced in the third paragraph, but the explanation jumps quickly to live broadcasts without fully exploring the economic or environmental implications of moving away from print. To move towards higher bands, the writer should ensure that every main idea is supported by deeper explanation and more specific examples rather than relying on generalized assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The writer attempts to guide the reader using cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Another significant reason', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always clear. For example, in the final sentence of the second paragraph, the pronoun reference 'them' lacks a completely clear antecedent due to structural clutter, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Paragraphing is utilised, but the internal logical progression within the body paragraphs would benefit from smoother linking and more precise signposting. To achieve a higher level, the writer needs to ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally and that the relationships between ideas are tightly managed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'evolutionary world', 'authentic', 'sustainable', and 'visual representation'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally impede precise communication. Examples include 'prefessionals' instead of professionals, 'palenty' instead of plenty, 'aceess' instead of access, and the awkward phrasing 'has take place' instead of 'has taken place'. Additionally, collocations like 'evolutionary world' instead of 'evolving world' or 'modern world' reveal some limitations in precision. To reach a higher band, the writer must expand their control over less common lexical items, ensure correct word forms, and eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination through words like 'although' and 'because'. There are, however, some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. These include subject-verb agreement issues and article omissions, such as 'on just one topics' instead of 'on just one topic', 'on their one click' instead of 'at the click of a button', and 'dont' missing an apostrophe. Additionally, sentence structures occasionally become convoluted, as seen in the run-on sentence structure in the final paragraph: 'despite the fact that newspaper ruled previous decades but in coming years will replace newspapers with electronicmedia'. While these errors rarely impede overall communication entirely, they persist frequently enough to restrict the score. To improve, the writer needs greater control over complex sentence structures and more accurate punctuation.
