IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In the present era, many youngsters and adult like to read books regualry. They like to read both types of books such as fiction and non-fiction, and they can find easily through online platforms like kindle. Due to this, there is growing concern about that in future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books. I agree with this view to a large extent because it will be very convienent for them to read or listen the books from online websites, without paying a single penny.
First of all, books play a vital role in human life. Many people are reading books in their daily routine. A significant number of people believe that, when they read books, they feel more relax from their fast-paced lifestyle. In previous years, people have to wait for books, especially for there updated version. For example, in India many children likes to read chetan bhagat novel books, and whenever the new update is launched in market, then they have to wait for long hours outside the shop to purchase. But, now it is very convienent for them with the invention of modern technologies such as smart applications and websites like kindle, apple books, and google books. There are many features in these apps like they can highlight the lines, also they can listen the audio. They can easily read the books anywhere and at anytime from their digital device. Moreover, the main reason is that people do not have to wait for the latest versions. They can easily buy from the online platforms such as amazon, flipkart etc.
On the other hand, there are some issues related to this advanced technology. Many youngsters are easily familiar with modern applications, but it can be difficult for elder people. Because the layout of some apps are very complicated for them. Many people believe that when they read books online they do not feel connected. Sometimes, they also have to face medical issues , due to constant screen time.
In conclusion, i can say that it totatly depends on person perspectives from where they want to read books. But with the invention of modern technology, it has the make the reading more convienent for people, because it can save their time, they do not have to go library or shops

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task partially. While the writer presents a clear position agreeing with the statement to a large extent, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the prompt specifically mentions two distinct aspects: newspapers and books, as well as the condition of reading online 'without paying'. Although the student touches upon free access briefly in the introduction by stating 'without paying a single penny', the body paragraphs fail to properly explore whether all content will genuinely be free, focusing instead primarily on convenience, digital apps like Kindle, and avoiding long queues. Furthermore, the argument shifts into discussing the general popularity and features of e-readers rather than deeply evaluating the economic and cultural shift away from physical print. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop all parts of the prompt with extended explanations and concrete support rather than relying on repetitive generalisations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation present in the essay, evident in the use of basic paragraphing and introductory transitional phrases such as 'First of all', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, the response lacks clear overall progression. The movement between ideas feels disjointed at times; for example, the transition from the discussion of waiting for Chetan Bhagat novels to the features of apps like Kindle within the same paragraph creates a slightly fragmented flow. Additionally, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'it has the make the reading more convienent'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within the body sections requires stronger logical links to guide the reader smoothly from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range to communicate basic points. The writer attempts some less common terms and app names, such as 'fast-paced lifestyle' and 'modern technologies', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word form. Examples of lexical slips include 'regualry' instead of regularly, 'convienent' instead of convenient, 'totatly' instead of totally, and the incorrect phrasing 'novel books'. Furthermore, awkward collocations like 'readers do not feel connected' or 'face medical issues due to constant screen time' demonstrate a lack of precision. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the vocabulary score and require more careful control of spelling and word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic complex forms. When the writer attempts more complex sentence structures, they are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in grammar throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('many youngsters and adult like', 'children likes'), incorrect verb tenses and auxiliary usage ('people have to wait', 'they have to face'), and missing articles. Punctuation and prepositions also show frequent lapses, such as commas separating clauses incorrectly and prepositional errors like 'depend on person perspectives'. These frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and signal that the writer needs to focus on mastering basic sentence mechanics and accurate verb forms.
