IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, social media and electronic media has a significant role in everyone life.In seems like no one will buy printed newspaper or physical books because they can read and get to know about it from e-media.I totally agreed with this view because it will reduce potential efforts and it is convenient.

Firstly, In this modern era every single person use technology and with the help of technology you can do anything you want and even within in a single click you will have access to anything. In the past if someone want to read or to learn something so they will visit to libraries or physical book shops but now due to technology people are aware of everything what is happening. So there is no need to buy physical books or newspaper. There are plenty of websites or news channel available through which you can know about the current conditions and issues which are in a trending position.Furthermore, the young youth are not physically well they prefer staying at home instead of visitingf libraries.

Secondly, everyone is stucked in their daily life.So if they find free time they read e-books which are available online because it is very convenient. Moreover, if you are visiting to another city, place e-books are very useful because there is no need to carry physical books.

In conclusion, in the upcoming era phsical books would be replaced with e-books.In my point of view it has many advantages like it offers conveniance and time management. In this era there are one of the most important things.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task partially, taking a clear position that printed newspapers and books will be replaced due to convenience and reduced effort. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the argument that 'the young youth are not physically well they prefer staying at home' lacks clear explanation and logical connection to reading habits. Similarly, the points raised regarding time management and convenience are repetitive across paragraphs rather than fully expanded with relevant examples, placing this criterion at the targeted level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident through basic transitional markers like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion', but the text lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, with the body paragraphs separating two main arguments about technology and convenience, but the transitions between sentences feel mechanical and sometimes abrupt, such as jumping from websites and news channels directly to youth health. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, particularly with pronoun usage and dangling modifiers, leading to a somewhat disjointed flow that fits this level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate to express basic ideas about technology and reading. The writer attempts some less common terms such as 'trending position', 'conveniance', and 'phsical books', but noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling occur frequently throughout the essay, including 'stucked' instead of stuck and 'visitingf' instead of visiting. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips require the reader to occasionally pause, aligning with the descriptions for this vocabulary band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside basic complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in agreement, articles, punctuation, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'everyone life' instead of everyone's life, 'visit to libraries', and missing commas separating independent clauses. For example, sentences like 'In the past if someone want to read or to learn something so they will visit to libraries' contain multiple tense and structural issues. These frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader.
