IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the modern Era, People may stop n printed newspaper and books becausew they can read a large amount of information online ,often for free. I partly agree with this statement becauser digital reading is becoming more popular, but i don't think printed materials will disappear completly.
Firstly , online newspapers and books are convinent and easy to access.People can read them on their smartphones, tablets or computers without carrying heavy books or newspaperts. In addition, many websites free of charge.Especially useful for students because they can quickly find informantion for their studies. Therefore, the demand for printed newspapers and some types of books may decreases in the future.
However, I believe printed books because they find them mors comfortable and easier to concentrate on. For instance ,some students prefer using physical textbooks when studying because they can make notes and avoid distractions from their phones. Printed books are also popular as gifts and for collecting ,especially novels, special editions and academic books. Many of the old historicals knowledge are written in the papers physically which is replaced by online instead of papers materials .Online materials can store large number of knowledge which is also written in the papers .This way all the physicall written things will be protect .
In conclusion ,I agree that online reading will probably reduce the demand for printed newspapers and books because it is convinent and often cheaper. However ,i don't believe printed materials will completly disappear ,as many people still prefer the experiance of reading physical books.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position on the statement that digital reading will replace printed materials. The writer successfully balances both sides of the argument, acknowledging the growth of online reading while arguing for the endurance of physical books. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, the argument regarding the convenience of online sources is clear, but the points raised about historical knowledge in the third paragraph are somewhat muddled and lack clear extension. To reach a higher level, all supporting arguments need to be thoroughly explored and logically expanded without wandering into repetitive or unclear concepts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The writer uses basic cohesive devices to connect ideas, such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'In conclusion'. Nevertheless, cohesion is at times mechanical, and referencing is not always clear, particularly in the third paragraph where sentences such as 'Many of the old historicals knowledge are written in the papers physically' disrupt the flow and logical progression. Paragraphing is used to separate main points, but internal transitions could be smoother and more sophisticated. To improve, the writer should ensure that ideas follow a clear logical sequence with precise referencing between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'convenient', 'distractions', and 'editions'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'Era' instead of 'era', 'beacausew', 'beacauser', 'complectly', 'informantion', 'historicals', and 'physicall'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a limited control over spelling and word forms. To achieve a higher standard, the writer needs to demonstrate greater precision in word choice and significantly reduce spelling slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I partly agree with this statement because digital reading is becoming more popular'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('many websites free of charge' instead of 'are free of charge'), subject-verb agreement issues ('demand... decreases'), and awkward phrasing like 'which is replaced by online instead of papers materials'. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede overall communication. To move up to the next band, the writer should produce more error-free sentences when attempting complex structures and refine punctuation and phrasing.
