Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position of total agreement regarding the shift towards free online reading materials. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the economic benefits for consumers and publishers and the widespread accessibility of digital devices and Wi-Fi. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the discussion on economic savings lacks deeper elaboration on how publishing models would financially sustain themselves if content is entirely free. Additionally, the argument about distribution is somewhat repetitive. To reach a higher level, all main ideas would need to be thoroughly extended and supported with greater depth throughout the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the writing is divided into logical paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as "To commence," "Furthermore," and "To conclude." However, the cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always clear. For example, transitional phrases feel slightly formulaic, and sentences like "On onlone platforms we can have accees of different authors and newspapers" disrupt the natural flow. To improve, the writer needs to integrate cohesive devices more flexibly and smoothly, ensuring that transitions between sentences and paragraphs connect ideas naturally without relying on rigid formulas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to use less common items such as "digitalisation," "economically," and "accessibility." However, there are noticeable spelling, word-choice, and collocation errors that occasionally cause difficulty or distract the reader, such as "important source" instead of "sources," "access of wi-fi" instead of "access to wi-fi," and spelling slips like "onlone," "accees," and "computrer." The range remains limited, and words are sometimes repeated rather than paraphrased. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, use word partnerships more accurately, and eliminate basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and causal clauses (e.g., "With an advancement of technology, everything is getting online these days"). However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader, particularly concerning article usage (e.g., missing articles before singular countable nouns like "role" and "newspaper"), subject-verb agreement (e.g., "Newspapers company have to pay them"), and prepositional patterns. Punctuation spacing errors also appear throughout the text. To progress to the next level, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences and exercise better control over basic grammatical rules and punctuation.
