IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Future changes are mostly un prediictable these days as humans are progessing everyday with the passage of time getting alot of changes and one of them is digital media availability but it will not replace the printed newspapers or books and i disagree with this statement
firstly, If we see that most of the information around us in the form of papers we are usually attracted with the reading habits in our dailylife and we are adapted through learning that way as we progress in our daily life on the other hand if we see books which are available online we usually don,t read them if we have a whole library in our phone as we are not adapted to that type of reading. Forexample : During my bachelors study is used to ask my sir to make notes using ms word and my sir told me to read them in a paper form at first i was frustrated that why i should read froma paper if i can read the same thing from my miobile or computer so i decided to experiment myself i tried to memoroize the notes using the Computer. I have noticed that i was struggling while memorizing using my computer bcs of eye strain and on the other hasnd it was opposite in memorizing using hand notes and i really perfomed well in that.
Secondly, if we talik about newspaper it can never be replaced by digital copies as newspaper is only linked to be read using paper and nobody will accept the newspapetrs in digital form. An exmaple of Lates Jang newspaper digitization survey is a good benchmark for that in pakistan where 90% disaggreed on the digitization of newspaper.
Overall, Digitization of books and newspaper is a good thing and is need of the current modern world as usuakly people also don,t have proper time to consume print media and then can easiy read them everywhere in term of fesibility but saying that it will replace the printed version of them is an impossible thing which can never happen.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on the future of printed newspapers and books, fully meeting the lower requirements and showing elements of higher task fulfillment. The student outlines a direct disagreement with the prompt and supports this with relevant ideas. However, some aspects of the argument are more fully developed than others. For instance, the personal anecdote about bachelors study and reading notes is quite detailed and extended, whereas the point regarding the Jang newspaper survey is somewhat brief and relies on a single statistic without much broader elaboration. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to ensure all main ideas receive an equal level of extension and support, avoiding reliance on overly conversational or anecdotal evidence as the primary pillar of argumentation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance maintained throughout. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, two distinct body paragraphs focusing on books and newspapers respectively, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is occasionally faulty, leading to a choppy flow. For example, the transition phrases like 'firstly' and 'Secondly' are used, but sentences within the body paragraphs tend to run on excessively without appropriate internal punctuation or conjunctions, creating long, breathless clauses such as the opening sentence. Furthermore, pronouns referencing previous ideas lack precision. To achieve a higher score, the writer must employ a wider, more flexible range of cohesive devices and break down overly long, unpunctuated sentences to improve the overall logical progression and readability.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'digitization' and 'feasibility'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'un prediictable', 'progessing', 'alot', 'dailylife', 'Forexample', 'miobile', 'memoroize', 'bcs', 'talik', 'exmaple', 'Lates', 'disaggreed', 'usuakly', and 'easiy'. Word choice and word form are also occasionally imprecise, such as 'in term of fesibility' instead of 'in terms of feasibility'. These errors do not completely impede communication, which places the response securely in this band, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, the writer needs to expand their control over common word spellings and pay closer attention to word formation and accurate collocational usage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some capability to construct multi-clause sentences. However, the grammatical range remains somewhat limited in terms of accurate complex structures. There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and sentence boundaries, such as run-on sentences that span entire paragraphs without proper terminal punctuation or capitalization (e.g., the entire opening paragraph and the lengthy anecdote about bachelors study). Errors also appear in articles, prepositions, and verb tenses, such as 'study is used to ask' instead of 'studies used to ask' or 'used to ask'. These errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To reach the next band, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex structures and exercise much better control over basic sentence boundaries and punctuation.
