In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. It is quite a strong statement, but I agree with this because the world is rapidly growing towards techinology and young generation is not fond of paper reading.

Newspapers were a huge part of the day in old times, when elder people usually started their day reading a newspaper while having tea. Children also developed that habbit seeing their elder do it, but now as the elders in home have access to digital phones the youngers do follow that aswell.

Furthermore, trend has been changed and even homework comes on phones, the question is what is different in a news paper that we cannot get in digital devices to attract reading. and the answer for younger generation in nothing.

On one hand, Some people are of the opinion that Reading online is cheaper but there is an internet cost which is way more higher than a newspaper, so they are also not reading anything without spending.

On the other hand, newspaper reading may still remain with some readers who are fond of reading from paper, they dont get satisfy with reading online, also there is much entertainment like puzzles and media news on one paper which some usually like and are fond of.

In my opinion, electronic devices may take over significantly but still cannot replace it completely.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your response addresses the task only partially, and importantly, the length requirement is not met as the essay contains 218 words, falling 32 words short of the 250-word minimum (23 words copied from the prompt were not counted). Your position is expressed, but it slightly contradicts itself because you state in the introduction and body that you agree with the statement, yet your conclusion states that electronic devices 'still cannot replace it completely.' Furthermore, your ideas are limited and under-developed. For instance, when you mention that internet costs are higher than newspapers, this point is not fully explained or connected back to the broader debate about free online content. To reach a higher band, you must ensure you meet the minimum word count, maintain a consistent position throughout, and fully extend your arguments with relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation in your essay, with an introduction, body paragraphs marked by transitional phrases like 'Furthermore', 'On one hand', and 'On the other hand', and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the logical flow is disrupted by contradictory statements between your introduction and conclusion. Additionally, cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence starting with 'the youngers do follow that aswell', where the pronoun reference is vague. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences within paragraphs sometimes lack smooth transitions. To improve, you should ensure a logical progression from one idea to the next and use cohesive devices more accurately to link your sentences and paragraphs together.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You demonstrate a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, but there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that may cause some difficulty for the reader. Examples of these issues include spelling errors like 'techinology' and 'habbit', as well as awkward collocations and word forms such as 'elder people' instead of 'elderly people', 'digital phones' instead of 'smartphones' or 'devices', and 'dont get satisfy' instead of 'do not get satisfied'. You also repeat basic words frequently. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary with greater precision, pay closer attention to word forms and collocations, and eliminate spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Your writing shows a limited range of sentence structures, and your attempts at complex sentences are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles. For example, you write 'trend has been changed', 'homework comes on phones', and 'way more higher', which contain inappropriate verb tenses and comparative structures. Punctuation and capitalization errors are also present, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters in places like 'Some people are...' and running clauses together without proper punctuation. To improve, you should work on building a better mix of simple and complex sentences while reducing grammatical errors so that your meaning is clearer to the reader.
