IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.5)
With the rapidly increasing technology, people can now read articles and stories online using various free websites and apps. Many people think that if this continous, then in the future nobody will purchase printed media. I partially disagree with this view because printed books and newspapers are very important to certain people as a collection items and also for young kids.
Many people find books very interesting and they love to form big collections of their favourite books and newspapers. For them it's not just a story they can relate to but more of a personal connection which gives them happiness like a hobby. For example, Manga fans love to go to the stores every week to get their favourite collections even if they can access it online. Furthermore, they believe that it gives them a feeling of nostaltia and something to look forward to.
On the other hand, it is very cruital especially for young kids to read physical books instead of e-books as in such young age, electronics are slowing down the development of the kids. If they even read in screens, their attention span decreases and they have many problems. Sweden school education system is a great example, they have banned tablets which students previously used to read. Nevertheless their study suggest that it makes them dumb compared to students that uses printed books.
To conclude this, I do believe that with the free access of books and articles online, buying printed media has decreased but I do not agree that in the future it will completely be ignored because it is very important for many.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, acknowledging the trend of online reading while arguing that printed media will survive due to specific benefits. Ideas are extended and supported, such as mentioning Manga fans and the Swedish education system, which demonstrates a good effort to develop arguments. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or rely on generalisations rather than deep exploration. The progression of ideas satisfies the requirements for the mid-band level by maintaining relevance throughout the essay, though a more fully extended discussion of both sides would be needed to reach a higher tier of achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear central topic introduced in the opening paragraph and distinct body paragraphs focusing on separate arguments regarding collectors and young children. Logical organisation is visible, supported by transitional markers such as 'Many people' and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, such as the abrupt conclusion starting with 'To conclude this' which lacks seamless integration. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but the flow between sentences could sometimes be smoother to achieve a truly natural progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'nostalgia', 'collection items', and 'development'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'continous' instead of continuous, 'collection items' instead of collector's items, 'cruital' instead of crucial, and 'nostaltia' instead of nostalgia. Furthermore, collocations are occasionally imprecise, such as 'Sweden school education system' instead of the Swedish school system. These inaccuracies do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments easily, but they prevent the writing from attaining a higher lexical band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and attempting more intricate clauses such as 'Many people think that if this continous, then in the future nobody will purchase printed media.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including preposition and article issues like 'at such young age' instead of at such a young age, 'read in screens' instead of read on screens, and subject-verb agreement issues such as 'students that uses' instead of students that use. Nonetheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the core meaning of the sentences to remain clear.
