IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years, there has been a growing debate about whether online newspaper and books will be replaced by printed newspaper and books. While some people believe that printed books and newspaper can never be obsolete, I firmly agree that in future time online material will replace printed books and newspaper. This essay will explain main reasons for my position.
One of the major reason, why I believe online books and newspapers will take the place of printed books and newapapers because is has no cost, its moslty free. When people will have accessbility to same books and newspaper without any cost, no one will prefer to buy printed books and newspaper by paying for it. For instance, if you want to read a particular book, you can easily find it online for free without needing to buy it from a store. As a result, the increased availability of free online materials will make people's lives easier and help them save money.
Another important reason it that online material provide flexibility of reading. It means that an individual can read any book or newspaper at any hour of the day and any place without carrying a physical book everywhere. For example, if a person wants a particule book at midnight, he dont need to wait till the morning for shops to get open so that he can buy a book and read however, he can just open his mobile or laptop and read whatever he wants. Another example, is that if a person is travelling, he won't need to carry his physical books everywhere, he can read them from his mobile phone or laptop.
In conclusion, I firmly agree that in future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything online without paying, at anytime of the day, anywhere without need to carrying a physical book.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the prompt's statement. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the financial benefit of free online materials and the reading flexibility they offer. However, these ideas are somewhat under-developed. For instance, the argument regarding cost relies heavily on broad assertions rather than exploring broader implications such as author compensation or quality control. The main position is maintained throughout the essay and supported by relatable examples, such as finding a book online at midnight or while travelling, fitting the level where all parts are addressed though some require deeper extension.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs focusing on distinct supporting points, and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas. However, cohesion within and between sentences is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, utilizing basic transition markers like 'For instance' and 'Another important reason'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the vague pronoun use in phrases like 'because is has no cost, its moslty free'. While the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, the cohesive devices lack the flexibility and smooth flow required for higher bands.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'obsolete', 'accessibility', and 'flexibility'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling throughout the text. Examples include 'newapapers' instead of newspapers, 'is has no cost' instead of it has no cost, and 'particule' instead of particular. These lexical errors and awkward word choices do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the response to a more basic vocabulary level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. However, there is a limited range of complex structures attempted, and attempts at more intricate sentences are frequently marred by errors in articles, subject-verb agreement, and clause construction, such as 'One of the major reason... because is has no cost' and 'he dont need to wait till the morning for shops to get open'. Punctuation and phrasing errors are present throughout, though they rarely impede the reader's overall understanding of the text.
