In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Upcoming days people will stop buying newspaper or books because they will have access to online platforms for free. I partly agree with this as online reading have convenience and cost saving and printed books and newspaper will also survive because it has better reading experience.

As people now a days has digital device so they will prefer mobile phone rather than purchasing physical copy of books or newspaper. Although it is more convenient lots of books available instantly and also easily accessible through smartphone and tablets. Mainly it is cost saving many websites offers free contents and their is no printing cost. Environmental benefits also take place it take less paper consumption and fewer trees cut down. Easily storage access available no need for bookshelves, which thousand of books stored on one device.

On the other hand the books and newspaper will continue because, it has better reading experience less eye strain and easier to concentrate. Tangible experience to collect books also books can be gift someone. Not everything is free on internet, many websites require subscription although premium newspapers charge fees. For example, The Newyork Times, The wall street journal etc. Elderly people may struggle with technology. As they are not use to with latest devices.

To conclude, I believe that although, modern technologies are take place as growing use of internet over global. If internet access becomes more widespread, online reading may become even more popular. In other side also many areas is not getting internet courage so physical books and newspapers is better option. However internet may not access everywhere. So printed books and newspaper will survive.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your response addresses the question and presents a clear, balanced position: online reading is convenient and inexpensive, but printed materials will continue to have advantages. You support both sides with relevant points, including reduced eye strain, collecting books, subscriptions, and limited internet access. This gives the essay a sound basis. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the point that physical books offer a “better reading experience” could be supported with a clearer explanation of why readers value it, and the discussion of elderly people is brief. The conclusion also introduces internet access in a somewhat repetitive way. Develop the strongest reasons with specific explanation and keep the final position consistent and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present contrasting arguments, and a conclusion restates your view. The contrast between online and printed reading is easy to follow, and phrases such as “On the other hand” help signal the shift. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. The final paragraph repeats the point about internet access, while “In other side” does not express the relationship naturally. Some ideas within paragraphs are also joined abruptly, such as moving from convenience to environmental benefits and then storage. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each supporting point to the paragraph’s main idea. Avoid repeating the same reason in the conclusion, and use referencing that makes it clear what “it” refers to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic, including relevant terms such as “subscription,” “environmental benefits,” “eye strain,” and “physical copy.” These choices show an attempt to go beyond very basic language. However, word choice, collocation, and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make phrases awkward, as in “Easily storage access available,” “internet courage,” and “use to with latest devices.” There are also inconsistent forms in “newspaper or books” and “free contents.” Aim for more natural topic-specific phrases and check spelling carefully, especially in proper names. More precise vocabulary would help you express your ideas without relying on repeated words such as “books,” “newspaper,” and “internet.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession beginning “Although” and a conditional sentence with “If internet access becomes more widespread.” This gives the essay some structural variety. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “online reading have convenience,” “many websites offers,” and “it take less paper consumption.” The sentence “As they are not use to with latest devices” is also incomplete and grammatically unclear. Some punctuation, particularly commas after introductory phrases and around clauses, needs attention. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, then verify agreement and tense. More accurate control of these patterns would make your meaning easier to follow.
