IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the upcoming years, people will not purchase the printed newspapers or book as all of these things are available on the internet. I strongly agree with this view because most of people dont want to spend their time and money on reading newspaper rather than they getting free book or newspaper on the internet.
Firstly, people want to save money more rather than spending money on the newspaper or books and these books or newspaper are already avalibale online so why will people spend on these when its free resorces is easily accessible so people want to search on the internet and want to study online rather than spending money.
Secondly, the newspaper or books are not easily accessible as people have to either purchase book or newspaper online or they have to go for purchasing on the other hand the online books and newspaper is easily availble on the internet on one single search so people want more ease rather than hassle.
Furthermore, the printed newspaper is difficult to read because in the books or newspaper it is written in small handwritting due to which it is difficult to study however, if you read through online so you can zoom the text which seems small so reading is easy in comparison with printed books and newspaper.
Moreover, These books and newspaper take storage in the house and they can also be lost in the house or sometimes it can get missing so it will be difficult to find the book again and again whereas the online books are just a search away which are easy to find so there will be no problem of getting the book or newspaper lost.
Lastly, In my opinion i strongly agree with this because it saves more time and money and is more convininent due to which people will focus more towards the e-learning rather than purchasing the books or newspaper.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you strongly agree that online access will reduce purchases of printed newspapers and books. You give several relevant reasons, including cost, convenience, readability through zooming, and storage. However, these points are mostly asserted rather than explained or supported with examples, and some overlap: saving money and free online access recur in the introduction, first body paragraph, and conclusion. The response also treats free online material as universally available, without considering whether all content is free or whether some readers will continue to prefer print. To develop the argument further, explain the consequences of each reason and acknowledge a relevant qualification before reaffirming your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate body paragraphs, and a concluding opinion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Furthermore” make the order of points easy to follow. However, the progression is somewhat mechanical: “Moreover” and “Lastly” continue the same list rather than building a connected argument, and several paragraphs repeat the general claim that online reading is easier. Some long sentences join multiple ideas with “so” or “whereas,” making relationships less clear. Group related reasons and explain how each supports your position; use a wider range of linking and referencing rather than relying mainly on numbered transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “printed newspapers,” “accessible,” “storage,” and “e-learning.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated frequently, especially “books or newspaper,” “online,” and “easy.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “avalibale,” “availble,” “resorces,” and “convininent,” which reduce accuracy. Some expressions are unnatural, including “save money more rather than” and “take storage in the house.” Build a more precise range of collocations for discussing publishing and access, and check spelling carefully. This would make the argument clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, complex sentences are often poorly controlled, with frequent problems in agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “most of people dont want” needs an article and a correctly formed verb phrase, while “the online books and newspaper is” has a number-agreement problem. The sentence beginning “so why will people spend” also runs several clauses together without clear punctuation. Capitalisation and apostrophes are inconsistent, as in “These” mid-sentence and “its.” Practise writing shorter, accurate sentences first, then combine ideas using controlled subordinate clauses and correct punctuation.
