IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people argue that in future no one will buy printed newspapers and books due to the fact everything will become digital and they will not have to pay for such services. I completely agree with this statement. In my option, newer genration are more inclined towards online media because of its accessibility. Futhermore, I think consuming media online is better for enviornment and is more cost effective.
In the last decade, technology has experienced rapid advancement and have become much more mainstream. It has become more accessable for newer generation as they can read a book and be updated with the news as per their on convenience. People do not have to go out to a book shop to simply buy a book or a newspaper, anyone with an internet and mobile phone can read thier favourite book in a instant. For instance, People can easily read the book they are most intreasted in while comuting to and from thier office and even can change it if they want to read something new.
Another reason newspapers and books will become obsolete is because of cost effectiveness of digital media compared to printed media. For printed media you have to buy the physical copies of books and newspapers which can be very expensive while with online media you can access same content with very less fee or sometimes without any cost. Furthermore, printing newspaper and books are very damaging for the environment. For example, Millions of tress are cut each year to print newspapers which are causing deforestation in many parts of the earth.
In conclusion, many people argue buying newspapers and books will become obsolete. In my option in coming times more and more people will shift towards digital media and sales printed meida will drop. Such a trend will help people save more and will also be beneficial to the enovironment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I completely agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons: online access is convenient, digital content can cost less, and printing harms the environment. The examples about reading while commuting and trees being cut help support these points. This meets the task well, but the discussion is not equally developed: convenience is explained with a specific scenario, whereas the claim that everything will be available online without payment is not examined closely. The response also treats the disappearance of printed media as certain, without considering whether some people may continue to buy physical books or newspapers. Developing that prediction and qualifying your claims would make the argument more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from convenience to cost and environmental impact is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships. This is a coherent arrangement, though some connections feel mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “Furthermore.” The conclusion also repeats the main position rather than drawing together the two reasons, and “In my option” makes the reference to your view less clear. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make the final paragraph synthesise the argument. More precise links between claims and examples would also strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “accessibility,” “digital media,” “cost effectiveness,” “obsolete,” and “deforestation.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond very basic terms. However, spelling errors are noticeable throughout, including “genration,” “accessable,” “enviornment,” and “thier,” and some word combinations are unnatural, such as “with very less fee” and “sales printed media.” Repetition of “online media,” “books,” and “newspapers” also limits flexibility. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they reduce precision and fluency. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations, such as “at little or no cost” and “sales of printed media.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while,” and “as,” and most ideas remain understandable. However, some errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction are evident. For example, “technology has experienced rapid advancement and have become” has a subject–verb agreement problem; “with an internet and mobile phone” needs a more accurate article and plural construction; and “in a instant” uses the wrong article. The sentence beginning “For printed media you have to buy…” also needs clearer grammatical framing. These errors do not usually block communication, but they make the writing less controlled. Review agreement and article use, and proofread each sentence for complete, natural structures.
