IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In coming days, most people think no one will love to purchase newspapers or books in hard form. The reason behind that everyone is able to read any content either in the form of newspapers or books online via social media platforms. However, I somewhat disagree with this view because reading through hard copies is the way that can never be replaced by fully online content.
In recent years, use of technology like mobile phones, laptops and tablets has become very popular among every generation. For example, everone can use these devices for reading articles, news, blogs, research papers and books. Even for study purposes most of the students loved to use artificial inteligence tools for their research and help instead of purchasing books and finding context they are looking for. Additionaly, to get the general idea of a book or summary, they've become dependent on these tools. This will raises the health concerns releated to eyes and mental because most of the people became phone addicts.
To prevent it, many people believe to use newspaper and books is good instead of online content. For instance, new generation started to love old things back like old phones instead of smart phones to avoid wastage of time and limitless scrolling. Furthermore, this trend is becoming more popular and it will surge in next years. The reason behind this is new generation lives are mostly affected by this technology. Even it's releated to medical, behavioral health and addicted to the consumption of content. This will ruin their lives. So, to prevent that, many affected people are using newspaper and reading books to get dopamine in a good way.
Overall, in my perspective online media will never totally replace the era of books and newspaper in printed forms because reading through hard copies much more effective and positive as compare to consuming online media.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you somewhat disagree and argue that printed books and newspapers will continue to be used. You address the contrast between online reading and print, and the points about screen-related concerns and people returning to older habits are relevant. However, the discussion does not fully explain why free online access would fail to replace print. The claim that people use print “to get dopamine in a good way,” for example, is unclear and needs explanation or evidence. The point about students using AI tools also shifts attention from online reading to research assistance. Develop these ideas more directly, and support your position with specific reasons such as concentration, ownership, or access to reliable sources.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the overall position remains consistent. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “Furthermore,” and “Overall” help signal relationships between points. However, progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the discussion moves from technology and AI to health concerns, then to old phones and dopamine without clearly showing how each point supports the argument about printed media. Some transitions, including “To prevent it,” have an unclear reference. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, use topic sentences to establish that reason, and make references explicit so the reader can follow the argument more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “hard copies,” “research papers,” “limitless scrolling,” and “health concerns,” and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the intended meaning unclear. Examples include “love to purchase,” “finding context they are looking for,” and “get dopamine in a good way.” Spelling errors such as “everone,” “inteligence,” and “releated” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise, natural phrasing and check spelling carefully. For instance, explain that readers may prefer print because it helps them concentrate, rather than relying on vague claims about dopamine or technology ruining lives.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “instead of,” and “to prevent that,” and your main meaning is generally understandable. However, some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “The reason behind that everyone is able” is missing a linking structure, while “This will raises” has an incorrect verb form. In “most of the students loved to use,” the tense does not fit the general point, and “reading through hard copies much more effective” lacks a verb. Work on complete sentence structures, consistent tense, subject–verb agreement, and articles. Proofreading for these patterns would make your argument easier to read without changing its ideas.
