IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 4.5)

it is widely believed that in the upcoming modern world people leave to spend money to purchase printed newspapers or reading books, Although, everyone can able to watch online on social media without buying those, from my perspective, i agree with this point of view individuals watch books and newspaper online, they are many benefits as compared spend amounth on them.

On the one hand, i agree with that reason man old ages people cannot afford its costs, they are staying in one bedroom to watch reading book and news online on youtube platfom, for instance, in UK, many oldages houses present for elder people, the over ages people can live there, so they have not money to buy the newspaper, in contrast, inside the houses present free wifi, then many peole use phone and watch the newspaper and readinb book online wothout cost. I suggest its good to for overage people to reading books or news online.

On the other hand, the government make some policy to ban the printed newspapers or reading books in shops, then make more oldage houses for people and install free internet in them, and also make some places for tourist for setting and watch the newspaper and reading books, for instance, together watching news and reading books in parking area on social media is more helpful for people because with disscusing the people mind boost with conversation.

In conclusion, online watching is cheaper in many country such as Pakistan, and other reason people learn from each other to reading books. While individual can't spend money on newspapers and reading books because it is expensive and more time takes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You state a position—“I agree with this point of view”—and discuss online access to books and newspapers, so the response is connected to the topic. However, the task asks whether printed publications will disappear because everything will be available online for free. Your discussion focuses mainly on older people and free internet, and does not explain whether printed books and newspapers will still be bought by other groups or why online content would be free. The suggestion that governments should ban printed publications also shifts away from explaining your own view. To develop the response, address both the likely future of print and the claim about free online access, then support your position with relevant, clearly explained reasons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion, which gives it some recognisable organisation. However, the ideas do not progress clearly: the first body paragraph moves from older people’s finances to care homes and free Wi-Fi, while the second introduces a government ban and public viewing areas without a clear link to the argument. Connectors such as “Although,” “for instance,” and “in contrast” are sometimes used in ways that do not show the intended relationship. The conclusion also introduces points rather than neatly summarising the argument. Plan one main point per paragraph and use linking phrases only where their meaning fits.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “printed newspapers,” “free wifi,” “government,” and “social media,” so the reader can identify the subject. However, the range is basic and several word choices or combinations make meaning difficult to follow. For example, “people leave to spend money,” “watch reading book,” and “make some places for tourist for setting” are not natural expressions in this context. Spelling errors such as “platfom,” “peole,” and “disscusing” also reduce clarity. Build a more accurate set of phrases for discussing publication and access, such as “purchase printed copies,” “read digital editions,” and “access content free of charge,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to express a position and use longer sentences with clauses, including “because” and “then,” but control of sentence structure is limited. Many sentences contain errors that make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “everyone can able to watch online” combines incompatible verb forms, while “the government make some policy” has an agreement error and an unclear singular/plural pattern. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, especially where a full stop or capital letter is needed after the opening sentence. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then join them with one clear subordinate clause. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb forms, and separate complete ideas with full stops.
