IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the comming days, noone will purchase printed newspapers or book as every reading material will be available online to read, without paying a single rupee. I completely agree with it because reading material will be free of cost. in addition it will be easy to access the resources.
Lets begin, by considering benefits. All the books will be free so it will attract the people. In todays world, it is very difficult to earn living, and the inflation is constantly incrasing. Moreover, this change will lead to poverty, and it will not be easy for a person to purchase different items related to his hobby due to this when each and every type of book and booklets will be available so every society will preffer to have it without paying any cost. It is a basic human nature thet every free item attacts him. For example, If someone go to the market and find two same watches of same quality, but different prices so a person always buy a watch which is less expensive because he or she is getting a watch with same quality but less costly. Hence, cost always attract a person. So when a individual will get something free, he will definately get it.
Simillarly, today due to social media and internet websites, the world is one click away. It is very easy to find out out internal and external affairs without a newspaper. Also, it is a nature of human that he always finds easyness in different affairs. Additionally, the concept of Smart work is dramaticallly increasing. For instance, each and every book or news paper will be available online infuture due to this it will be time time friendly to excess them, and their will be no need to go to the market for finding a particular book and waste the time.
In conclusion, from my perspective, in the future it will be easy to access different reading material, and also when individuals will get these items without paying money so there will be no reason of wasting money on buying books or news papers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I completely agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give two relevant reasons: online reading would avoid purchase costs, and digital access is convenient. The examples about choosing a cheaper watch and finding news online help illustrate these points. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the watch example is not directly about books or newspapers, and the claim that free access “will lead to poverty” is unclear and does not support your argument. The response also treats free online access as certain rather than considering the statement’s prediction or qualifying your agreement. Explain how these changes would affect readers and publishing, and develop each reason with more directly relevant support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs broadly separate affordability from convenience, so the reader can follow the main line of argument. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Similarly,” and “In conclusion” also signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes mechanical or unclear. For example, “Moreover, this change will lead to poverty” does not connect logically to the preceding point about inflation, and the long sentence beginning “Moreover, this change…” contains several ideas without clear boundaries. The opening “Lets begin” is also an informal, unnecessary signpost. Use clearer topic sentences and divide complex explanations into shorter units, ensuring each example directly supports the paragraph’s main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You communicate the central ideas using relevant vocabulary such as “available online,” “inflation,” “social media,” and “access.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, including “internal and external affairs” and “cost-effective” ideas, although some phrasing is not natural. The range is limited by repeated words such as “free,” “easy,” “book,” and “person,” while several spelling errors are noticeable: “comming,” “incrasing,” “preffer,” and “definately.” Some word choices or collocations make meaning less precise, for example “find out out internal and external affairs” and “time friendly.” Build a wider set of accurate expressions for affordability and convenience, and check spelling and collocations carefully. Prefer precise phrases such as “access current affairs” and “save time” over literal translations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “when,” and “if,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to process. Examples include “All the books will be free so it will attract the people,” where the pronoun reference is unclear, and “If someone go to the market,” which has incorrect subject–verb agreement. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, as in “a individual” and the run-on explanation beginning “Moreover, this change will lead to poverty.” Practise accurate agreement and article use, and break long sentences into complete, clearly punctuated units. Aim to control a smaller range of structures before adding more complexity.
