IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In today's rapidly evolving world the issue of paper based newspapers and books value in the future has sparked a considerable debate, with opinions dividing on whether it beneficial or harmful. While, some poeple might favor the point of view that old method of reading will be populer in the future. However, i partially agree with the statement that majority of the individuals will transfer toward online reading without paying in the future because of availability of material and Artificial Intelligence but also because of its ability to understand easily. This essay will present both logical and real-world examples to support my perspective.
Firstly, the predominant reason that compelled me to agree with this notion is it straightforward availability. In today's modern world, numerous websites provide free online books and news related data. As a result people didn't need not read traditional books and megazines.
Secondly, another significant point is Artificial Intelligence, which provides all types of data within minutes. Therefore, individuals stop reading old books and newspaper.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You state a position—“I partially agree”—and give two relevant reasons: free online material and the speed of AI. However, the response addresses the question only partially. It does not explain whether printed books and newspapers will disappear, and the claim that AI will make people stop reading them is asserted rather than supported. The introduction promises “logical and real-world examples,” but none are provided, and the conclusion is unfinished (“In conclusion, i agree with the”). The response also falls short of the required 250 words, leaving too little space to develop your position. To improve, answer the prediction directly, explain each reason with a specific example, and complete a conclusion that restates your view.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation: an introduction is followed by two reason paragraphs and an attempted conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help signal the structure. However, progression is limited because each body paragraph contains only a brief claim and result, with little explanation linking them to the question. The contrast in the introduction—“While … However”—is not completed clearly, and the final sentence stops mid-thought, so the response has no effective ending. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Therefore” and “As a result.” Develop each paragraph around one main point, explain its consequence, and use transitions that show the actual relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt some topic-related and formal vocabulary, including “rapidly evolving,” “predominant,” “availability,” and “notion.” This gives the response a degree of variety, but the overall range is limited and several choices or spellings make the meaning less clear. For example, “paper based newspapers and books value” is an awkward expression, while “news related data” and “old method of reading” are imprecise. There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “poeple,” “populer,” “megazines,” and “conclustion.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than adding formal-sounding words: for instance, refer to “the future of printed newspapers and books” and “free digital content.” Proofreading would also improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and a longer sentence with a subordinate clause, as in “While, some poeple might favor … However, i partially agree …”. However, the range is limited, and complex structures are often faulty or incomplete. The opening sentence lacks a clear grammatical construction around “paper based newspapers and books value,” and “people didn't need not read” combines incompatible verb forms. In “As a result people …,” punctuation is also missing after the introductory phrase. The final sentence is incomplete, and capitalisation of “I” is inconsistent. Practise building clear subject–verb sentences first, then add subordinate clauses carefully; check verb forms, articles, punctuation, and sentence completeness during revision.
