IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern era, people are shifting toward more and more digital content. Owing to this, some predict that in coming years the sales of printed books or newspaper might decline. Athough digital media offers unprecedented accebility and cost-free information, I disagree with the assertion that print media will vanish entirely, as premium content still requires payment and physical format offer distinct tactile and health benefits.

First, the assumption that quality information would remain completely free online is fundamentally flawed, as credible journalism and literature increasingly rely on digital paywall and subscription. Not only this, the digital media can easily be manupulated. Therefore, there is a iamges of unrealibility among users in relation to online availabe resources. For example, if there is a blog related to any treasure found in any sea, people might not believe in until it is confirmed by a official source.

Furthermore, printed books and newspapers could endure because many readers preferd the tactile experience, reduced screen fatigue, and permanent ownership that paper formats provide. Moreover, people pay for feel and premium experience one gains from physical books, wich make it difficult to strip away that audiance of print media. Also, there are many who beleive in digital detox and go for book for this process. For an instance, a person who is trying to avoid digial content due to health reasons then he might choose print media over digital media

To conclude, there is concrete arguments to support digital and online form of journalism but as paper books and newspapers are linked with feelings and emotionms. This is why they remain more significant even in future

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you disagree that print will disappear, and the introduction previews reasons involving paid online content and the benefits of physical formats. The body paragraphs stay relevant, discussing paywalls, trust in online sources, tactile experience, screen fatigue, and digital detox. However, some points are more fully addressed than others. The example about a blog reporting treasure found at sea is difficult to connect to the broader claim about reliability, and the point about emotional attachment to print in the conclusion is not developed in the body. Explain how each reason affects future purchasing, and support the examples more directly, to make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “First,” “Furthermore,” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the argument. Within paragraphs, however, some links feel mechanical or do not make the relationship between ideas clear. “Not only this” is followed by a separate claim about manipulation, while “Therefore” introduces an unclear conclusion about users’ reliability concerns. The example that follows is also loosely connected. Improve progression by explaining the link between each claim and its example, and use pronouns and transitions that make the references explicit. The conclusion would be more cohesive if it briefly restated the two main reasons rather than introducing feelings and emotions as a new emphasis.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a useful range of topic vocabulary, including “digital content,” “paywall,” “subscription,” “tactile experience,” “screen fatigue,” and “digital detox.” These choices show awareness of the subject and generally allow the reader to understand your argument. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations reduce accuracy: examples include “accebility,” “manupulated,” “unrealibility,” and “permanent ownership.” Phrases such as “there is a iamges of unrealibility” and “pay for feel” are difficult to interpret, while “premium experience one gains” needs clearer phrasing. Aim for accurate collocations and proofread spelling; precise wording will help your ideas sound more convincing and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the concessive structure “Although digital media offers…, I disagree…” and the clause beginning “because many readers prefer…”. Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “physical format offer” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “people might not believe in until it is confirmed” lacks a clear object and has an awkward clause structure. In “a person who is trying to avoid digital content… then he might choose,” the conditional relationship is not formed smoothly. Review agreement, articles, and sentence construction, especially when combining examples with longer clauses. More consistently controlled complex sentences would strengthen the response.
