IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Considering the rapid growth of technology, it is expected that in the upcoming era, nobody will purchase newspapers and printed books as individulas would be able to access everything online without spending a dime. I partially agree with the statement because almost every individuals would be able to read everything online but, I also believe it will account for some drawbacks in the mere future such as social isolation and other major eye issues.
I believe nobody would intend to purchase physical materials such as books, articles or newspapers when they are able to access everything online without paying for it. I believe this would make reading materials accessible by anyone which would contibute towards a positive development. The particular reaason being is the amount of help it would provide towards low-income individuals stuggling to pay tutuion fees on a daily basis. They could just purchase a single device which would help them access all reading materials for free. This accounts for the development of more skilled work-force which is better for both individual and the nation.
Furthermore, if the production of physical materials such as newspapers or books are completely diabanded then it would lower the deforestation rate. This is because trees play a vital role in the production of papers in a large scale. This would contribute towards more geographical growth globally.
However, in my opinion, there are some disadvantages that should taken into consideration. When people use their smartphones for reading or learning then the use of libraries would decline significantly causing less social interactions which could later be the major cause of social isolation.
In conclusion, the access of study materials or news through internet would aid individuals on a global scale as they do not have to purchase anything. However, the negative effects such as social isolaton and eye related issues due to excessive screen time should also be considered.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you partially agree, supporting free online access while recognising possible social and health drawbacks. You address the main issue with relevant points, including affordability for low-income learners and reduced paper use, and you explain how these could benefit individuals and the environment. However, some parts of the argument are less fully developed. The claim that online reading will reduce deforestation is asserted without considering whether digital access is always free or how devices are produced. The social-isolation point is also brief, and eye problems appear in the introduction and conclusion but are not explained in the body. Develop these points with specific reasoning and examples, and clarify how far you agree with the prediction that nobody will buy print.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, supporting paragraphs, a counterpoint, and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps distinguish the benefits from the disadvantage, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “However,” and “In conclusion” make the direction of the argument easy to follow. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical. For example, “This would contribute towards more geographical growth globally” does not clearly explain the link between reduced paper production and the stated outcome. The conclusion also introduces eye-related issues that the body has not developed. Improve progression by making each paragraph focus on one claim and explicitly connecting its explanation to the question; use referencing and transitions to show these links rather than relying mainly on standard signposts.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “low-income individuals,” “physical materials,” “deforestation rate,” and “social isolation.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt more formal expressions. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less precise. Examples include “geographical growth” where the intended environmental benefit is unclear, “purchase a single device” for buying a device, and “diabanded” for “discontinued.” There are also misspellings such as “individulas,” “contibute,” and “stuggling.” Aim for precise, natural combinations and proofread spelling. Replacing vague phrases with specific terms—such as “environmental benefits” or “reduce demand for paper”—would make the argument clearer and more academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “When people use their smartphones for reading or learning…” and a reason clause beginning “This is because…”. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “almost every individuals” has a disagreement between the determiner and noun, and “there are some disadvantages that should taken into consideration” is missing “be.” The opening sentence is also difficult to control because several ideas are packed into one long structure. Review subject–verb agreement, passive forms, and sentence boundaries, and check article use in phrases such as “better for both individual and the nation.” More accurate control of these patterns, alongside varied sentence structures, would strengthen the writing.
