IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's globalized and interconnected world, a prominent proposal currently gaining traction is the question whether online news and books will replace printed newspaper or books in future. Some people argue that technology has shift the demands of modern society, so, online news and books are easily accesible, while critics contend that printed newspapers and books are more reliable. I partially agree with the statement that in the coming era printed materials will be replaced by online media. I will discuss both views before concluding balanced approach is the most beneficial.
One of the main reasons physical books and newspaper will remain important because the elderly people don't know how to use cellphones and they trust more on printed materials. Additionally, the printed news is written by authentic journalists and will be seen more trustworthy. Furthermore, people from rural areas who don't have access to electronics equipments rely on printed documents. Also, some people like me love the style of holding a book in hand and moving finger on it, it has its own way of joy and excitement.
Conversely, online news and books are more faster and provide real-time news. Moreover, it is more convenient and accessible. For instance, a person can read a book anytime on his phone, sitting anywhere, and he doesn't need to step out of his home to market for buying a book. Through online media, people easily get to know the information of other countries, such as, the news of palestine people got few months ago in real-time at every hour. This is the biggest privilege of online media.
Taking everything into account, both printed and online media has its own advantages. No doubt, Online media give more facilities to people but it doesn't completely replaces the traditional methods.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you partially agree that online media will replace print, while concluding that both formats retain advantages. You address both sides with relevant points, including access for older and rural readers, the appeal of physical books, and the speed and convenience of online news. The examples help make the discussion concrete, particularly the reference to receiving international news in real time. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that printed news is more trustworthy because it is written by authentic journalists needs clearer reasoning, and the idea that older people cannot use phones is too broad. To strengthen the response, explain how these factors affect whether people will continue buying print, and connect the discussion more directly to the claim that online content will be free.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on reasons print may remain popular, a contrasting paragraph on online media, and a conclusion. This makes the main line of discussion easy to follow, and signposts such as “Additionally,” “Conversely,” and “Taking everything into account” guide the reader. Some linking is mechanical, however, with several points in the print paragraph introduced by “Additionally,” “Furthermore,” and “Also.” The introduction promises to discuss both views, but the conclusion’s “balanced approach” is not fully explained, and the final paragraph mostly repeats the main position. Improve progression by grouping related reasons, using clearer references between ideas, and making the conclusion synthesize the discussion rather than simply restate it.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “interconnected,” “accessible,” “real-time,” “convenient,” and “privilege.” These choices help communicate the contrast between print and digital media, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision, such as “more faster,” “trust more on printed materials,” “electronics equipments,” and “its own way of joy and excitement.” Spelling and capitalization slips, including “accesible” and “palestine,” also reduce control. Aim for more natural collocations and check word forms: for example, use “more trustworthy,” “electronic devices,” and “a unique sense of enjoyment.” More precise vocabulary would also help avoid broad claims such as “authentic journalists.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “people from rural areas who don’t have access…” and a conditional structure in “if they will be able to read…” is not used, but the response does include clauses explaining reasons and examples. Meaning is usually understandable, though some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “technology has shift” instead of “has shifted,” “physical books and newspaper will remain” instead of “books and newspapers will remain,” and “online media give” instead of “online media gives.” Articles and sentence construction also need attention: “before concluding balanced approach” requires an article, and the opening sentence runs into the next without a space after the full stop. Practise checking verb forms, subject–verb agreement, plurals, and articles, while retaining your attempts at longer sentences.
