IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In this modern era of technology online e-books and articles are taking place of physical books and newspapers. I think this trend is getting very common day by day. Due to the conveneince and availability of free information online, most of the people are converting to it. I agree with the fact that the market of books and newspapers is declining.
It is a subtle fact that online content is replacing physical forms of information and it is increasing day by day. There alot of reasons for that, some main reasons are: easy access to internet all over the world and the availability of any kind of content on the global web. There is alot of information present online, whether it is old or latest information, you can acess any of it.
The other reason is, it often gets hard to carry alot books with you and their are copies present online of that books. Which you just have to download on your phone or laptop.
Most of the intitutes all around the world are also converting their way of teaching. Most of educational content for higher studies is provided to students online in soft form. Students do not bother to print it and they prefer to study on their laptops. A single drive can carry a whole library and you can access information in seconds. A well known online form of information is wiki-pedia, an insane amount of information is present their. People all around the world publish their research on it and everyone can read it.
By observing the pattern of convertion of people towards online media and how much they rely on it. I strongly agree with this statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that online reading is replacing printed books and newspapers, and you give relevant reasons, including convenience, access to information, portability, and the use of digital materials in education. These examples show a basic response to the topic. However, the argument is only partly developed. The essay mainly explains why people are moving online, rather than fully examining the claim that nobody will buy print because online material is free. For example, you do not consider whether printed books may remain valuable or whether all online content is actually free. Develop each reason with a specific explanation or example, and address the absolute wording of the statement to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an introduction, several body paragraphs, and a concluding statement, so the reader can identify its general direction. The ideas about access, portability, and education are relevant and mostly grouped together. However, progression between points is not consistently clear: the second paragraph lists reasons, while the next begins “The other reason” without a strong link to the preceding explanation. The final paragraph also starts with “By observing the pattern…” as an incomplete introductory clause, which weakens the conclusion. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore” and “As a result” could clarify how each point supports your position. Use clearer topic sentences and make sure each paragraph develops one main idea in a logical sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “physical books,” “global web,” “soft form,” and “access information in seconds,” which helps communicate your main ideas. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, sometimes making the reader pause. Examples include “taking place of” for replacing, “converting to it” for switching to online media, and “online form of information” for an online source or platform. Spelling errors such as “conveneince,” “acess,” “intitutes,” and “convertion” are also noticeable. Aim for precise collocations and check spelling carefully. Replacing repeated general terms such as “information” and “online” with context-appropriate alternatives would make the argument clearer and more varied.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main message is generally understandable. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation occur frequently. For example, “There alot of reasons for that, some main reasons are” is not a complete, correctly joined sentence; “their are copies present online of that books” has agreement and plural errors; and “By observing the pattern …” is a dependent clause left without a main clause. There are also missing articles in phrases such as “carry alot books.” Practise building complete sentences with one clear main clause, then add subordinate clauses accurately. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries before submitting.
