IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In the up coming life no one can purchase hard books or newspapers because everything they can read on the internet without paying. In my view, I completely agree with this statement because some books are very expensive people cannot buy it and bring it anywhere.
To begin with, technology is every day new things innovated and it has great impact on individuals life. Many people are interesting with reading they can buy expensive books on the market, but in the future nobody buy books because any time of book are available on the internet. They are easily read any books online free. For instance, few years ago, my teachers want to buy " The power of now" book, but there price cost an arm and a leg, so they cannot buy it and now it available on the internet free, I also read it without paying.
Furthermore, the second benefit of online books is that people can read anywhere because it is available on the mobile. For example, when a person are waiting so they can read book on the mobile phone. In addition, people cannot spend money on the delivery because there charge is very high and they rapidly understanding the meaning any words because they check the meaning on the mobile phone. As a result, printed books are very common in the future and anyone can read without paying.
In conclusion, I would argue that printed novels are free available in the future because those books there price is high, so definitely it is free of cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear in the introduction: you completely agree that online access will replace printed books and newspapers. You give relevant reasons, including the cost of books and the convenience of reading on a mobile phone, and the example of “The Power of Now” helps illustrate the cost point. However, the response addresses the claim only partially. It focuses mainly on books, with little discussion of newspapers, and it does not fully explain why online material will be free or why printed publications will disappear. The conclusion also shifts to saying printed novels will be “free available,” which does not clearly restate your argument. Develop each reason with clearer explanation and keep the conclusion consistent with your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphs are generally organised around separate points, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help the reader follow the broad direction. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the point about delivery costs and checking word meanings is added without showing how it supports the prediction that printed books will disappear. Some connections are also repetitive or confusing, particularly the repeated claims that books will be available online for free. Use clearer links between each reason and the main argument, and make references such as “they” and “it” more precise so the reader can easily identify what they refer to.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “technology,” “available on the internet,” “delivery” and “without paying,” and the idiom “cost an arm and a leg” shows an attempt to use less basic language. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations sound unnatural, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “up coming life,” “every day new things innovated,” and “rapidly understanding the meaning any words” do not express the intended ideas clearly. There is also repetition of “books,” “read” and “free.” Build a more precise range for discussing digital access, affordability and printed media, and check common collocations and word forms when revising.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, using connectors such as “because,” “but” and “so,” and the overall meaning can usually be understood. However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction. Examples include “nobody buy books,” “my teachers want to buy,” “a person are waiting,” and “they can read book.” Some longer sentences combine ideas without a clear grammatical structure, as in “Many people are interesting with reading they can buy expensive books.” These errors sometimes make the reader work to understand the point. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and complete sentence patterns, then check articles and plural nouns during proofreading.
