IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
There will be no use of printed books and newpapers in future, as most of the individuals will prefer reading literature through online sources without any subscription. I partily agree with this perspective. There is no doubt that a plenty of reading material can be accessed online through a single source instead of wasting time on different shops or libraries. But still there are numerous sites in which the material is behind the paywall and the readers have to pay charges for accessing the documents.
On the one hand, online sources have made things easy and accessible. Because readers can find a variety of literature through a single website. This can minimizes the cost of travelling and wasting a lot of time visiting different stores for the sake of different literature. For instance, Google Scholars is a plateform in which researchers around the world find numerous papers and books that are available free. This helps student around the world to interact and gain knowledge without travelling or visisting the research labs for protocols.
On the other hand, there are many cases in which the readers have to pay some charges to access the documents. Moreover, there are also chances of plagarism of the orignal source material that are present online for free. For instance, Mr. Ahsan is a famous microbiologist of Paksitan who encourages his students to buy books and discourages the use of online source material. Because he thinks that the material present online can be fake or plagarized.
To conclude this debate, no doubt most of literature found online can minimizes the cost of travelling, but still many sites have reading material that is behind the paywall and the readers have to pay a huge subscription fee.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you partly agree that online reading will replace print, while noting that some material still requires payment. You address both the convenience of online access and the limits of free access, and the examples of Google Scholar and a microbiologist help illustrate these points. However, the discussion is unevenly developed. The benefits of convenience and reduced travel are explained, but the claim that online material may be plagiarised or fake is presented mainly through one person’s opinion, without showing how this affects whether people will buy printed books or newspapers. Develop that connection and explain more directly why print may continue to be purchased. This would make your response to the question more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction stating your position, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting points, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and also shows some features of stronger progression. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical, and some links between sentences are unclear. For example, “Because readers can find a variety of literature through a single website” is a fragment rather than a complete continuation, while the shift from paid access to plagiarism in the second body paragraph could be explained more clearly. Use complete sentences and connect each example explicitly to the paragraph’s main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “accessed online,” “subscription,” “paywall,” “plagiarism,” and “research labs.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common terms are attempted. However, spelling and word-choice errors recur, such as “newpapers,” “plateform,” “plagarism,” and “orignal.” There are also awkward or imprecise combinations, including “a plenty of reading material,” “pay some charges,” and “different literature.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases, such as “a wide range of reading materials” and “pay a fee to access content.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “as” and clauses beginning with “Because.” The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries. For example, “This can minimizes” should use the base verb after “can,” and “most of literature found online can minimizes” has the same verb-form problem as well as an awkward article pattern. “Because readers can find…” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence, and “the material … that are present” has a mismatch between the singular noun and verb. Review modal verbs, subject–verb agreement, and how to attach dependent clauses to complete sentences.
