IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years, technology has made most of the things easier, whether it is reading or writing. In the future no one will spend on hardcopy of newspapers and books, as everything they want will be there on the interenet without any charges. I strongly disagree with this statement and the reasons supporting my view will be discussed below.
To begin, there are several reasons that the trend of reading printed newspapers or books will be vanished. New generations prefer e-books rather carring multiple physical copies because it is easier to carry and it is less likely get damaged. Also, the social platforms and the news websites have made covenient for the readers to search about their concerns. For instance, every breaking news is instantly get viral on social sites before it will get print on the next available newspaper. Therefore, the innovaton has made numerious things availabe effortlessly which might affect the sale of printed newspapers and books in the future.
Furthermore, there are greater grounds which proove that people still rely on the printed newspaper for their best knowledge about world. Many individuals have a good collection of their favourite authors, as they like to read and keep books at their private place. For example, in cafes there are many customers who carry their newspaper or book with them to enjoy their coffee. Moreover, there are more chances of distruptions on the online readings as it depends on ineternet and electricity. It makes difficult for the person to completey rely on technology sometimes as it requires stable connection of internet.
In conclusion, there are some reason for new generation to not buy printed newspapers and books but still there are more people who like to read physical papers and this will not get vanishe

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly disagree that printed books and newspapers will disappear. You address both sides by acknowledging the convenience of digital reading and then giving reasons people may continue to value print, such as collecting favourite authors and avoiding dependence on internet access and electricity. These are relevant points, but some are not fully developed. The first body paragraph mainly explains why print sales may decline, which does not directly support your stated disagreement, and the café example does not clearly show why customers prefer printed material. Develop the contrast more explicitly—for example, explain what readers gain from owning or reading a physical book—and clarify whether you disagree with the prediction of disappearance or with the claim that online material will be free.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “To begin,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression is not always clear: the first body paragraph presents reasons print may vanish, despite your stated disagreement, and the relationship between that paragraph and your position needs to be made explicit. Some connections are also mechanical, with repeated “Moreover”/“Therefore”-style transitions rather than links that show the precise relationship between ideas. The conclusion is incomplete, so it does not fully bring the argument together. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s role, connect examples directly to claims, and finish with a complete summary of your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “physical copies,” “social platforms,” “breaking news,” “disruptions” and “stable connection.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “the reasons supporting my view.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the wording less natural: “interenet,” “covenient,” “numerious,” and “proove” are examples. Some collocations are awkward, including “spend on hardcopy” and “best knowledge about world,” while “the trend … will be vanished” does not express the intended idea naturally. Aim for accurate, conventional combinations and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary for the benefits of print and digital media would also help you express comparisons without relying on broad phrases such as “things easier.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a conditional clause (“as everything they want will be there”) and a relative clause (“customers who carry their newspaper or book”). The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “it is less likely get damaged” needs a grammatical construction such as “it is less likely to get damaged,” and “every breaking news is instantly get viral” has an incorrect verb pattern. In “there are more chances of distruptions … as it depends,” the pronoun reference and agreement are unclear. The final sentence is also unfinished. Review infinitive patterns, verb forms, agreement and sentence completion, while continuing to use complex structures with clearer control.
