IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the coming days, more people will be using electronic newspapers and books for reading without having to pay anything. While some people believe that digital media will replace hardcopy books and newspapers as they will be easily accessable while others argue that the digital information will be quite distracting and people would still choose to rely on hardcopies. I partialy agree with the people opposing the digitalization and willingly pay for printed books and newspapers.
On one hand, people in the coming days will depend on digital means more rather than using physical copies, this is due to more advancements in the field digitization as it will reduce the costs for digital information. Day by day compute power is getting cheaper thats why it lets people publish their own content without having to worry about any financials. For example, in the past the printing costs were huge as a result the books and newspaper were expensinve but there were no other means for people to get news or get hands on any books digitally. However, as compared to todays technology has significantly improve in the digital world on one click of the phone we can access any material online we want.
On the other hand, those people who rely on books and newspaper physically argue that the since the digitalization of the information people tent to get distracted more easily and in return instead of learning something new they end up seeing complete unrelated things which they first intended to do. For example, if someone wanted to learn about some perticular disease they have symptoms about they would use google and most of the time they will end up seeing completely unrelated stuff rather than the one they indend to learn about. This is the main reason they depend of physical things to escape from distractions.
I conclusion, I believe the people who do not want to get distracted by the excess information provided online tend to depend on physical books and newspapers so not everything will be replaced online. People who want easy accessbility will always rely on digital things and people who donot want focussed leaning will depend on physical things.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you partly disagree with the prediction, arguing that digital access will grow but printed materials will remain useful to people who want to avoid online distractions. You address both sides and give relevant examples, such as cheaper digital publishing and searching online for information about a disease. However, the response focuses more on access and distraction than on the claim that people will read online without paying. The point about free access is asserted rather than explained, and the reasons people may continue buying printed books or newspapers are not fully developed. To strengthen the response, address payment directly and extend each main reason with clearer explanation and support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signalled by “On one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. The examples generally follow the points they are intended to support, so the reader can follow the argument. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, some links are mechanical, and a few sentences contain unclear references or connections, such as “this is due to more advancements” and “the since the digitalization.” The conclusion also repeats the contrast without sharpening the central answer about free online reading. Use more precise links between cause and effect, and make each paragraph’s main point explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “digital media,” “physical copies,” “printing costs,” and “distracted.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “advancements” and “accessibility.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations are noticeable, including “accessable,” “expensinve,” “compute power,” and “depend of physical things.” Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “digital” and “physical,” and phrases such as “get hands on any books digitally” are not natural in this context. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations, while varying repeated terms with suitable alternatives such as “online sources” and “printed publications.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while,” “as,” and “if,” which helps express contrast and examples. The main meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in longer sentences and occasionally make relationships between ideas less clear. For instance, “Day by day compute power is getting cheaper thats why it lets people publish” needs clearer sentence boundaries and a more accurate clause structure; “technology has significantly improve” has an incorrect verb form; and “people tent to get distracted” contains an incorrect verb. Review verb forms, articles, and punctuation, especially in sentences joined by several clauses. Breaking some long sentences into two would also improve control.
