IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the present days people nobody purchase printed newspapers or books because of modern technological advancement they read everything in online platforms. I partly believe that nowadays people read articles or news in online because of technology, however it has a negative side like people are more on relying on technology instead of the traditional beliefs.

On the other hand, people are relying on online platform by reading or watching an article or news because it is more convinient and easy to access. This is because people nowadys adopt using smartphones and it has a lot of free website so that individual can read, for instance using a google you can see all the information there without paying money.

Furthermore, in the future generation i think nobody purchase printed newspapers or books because of technology, varios people are not interested in reading a news or trending in printed book because it is more expensive and its not famous nowadays, although reading in printed has a positive impact on people such as it enhance their reading skills and critical thinking thats why it has a lot of elder people are intelligent because they always read in printed paper, unlike reading in gadgets it can cause eye radiation and cancer because of too much reading in screen.

In conclusion, it partly agree of these opinion because in the the future people can adopt other situation by using technology because it is convinent however it has a negative side like are culture is fading because ot new belief. While, it is crucial in newspaper or books so that people can preserve the culture and preserve it to new generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a partly agreeing position and address both the convenience of online reading and reasons printed material may remain valuable. The examples of free websites and the possible benefits of print are relevant to the question. However, the response does not fully explain the claim that people will be able to read everything online without paying, and the discussion shifts at times to broader ideas about culture and technology. Some support is unclear—for example, the claim that print makes older people intelligent is asserted rather than explained. To strengthen the response, state your position more precisely in the introduction and develop each main reason with a clear explanation or example, including why printed books and newspapers may still be bought in the future.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and connectors such as “On the other hand,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” show an attempt to organise the discussion. However, the progression between ideas is not always clear. The second body paragraph combines predictions about print, reading skills, older people, eye health and culture, so its central point becomes difficult to follow. Some linking phrases also do not express the relationship accurately, and the conclusion repeats ideas without clearly bringing the argument together. Give each paragraph one main purpose, arrange supporting points in a logical order, and use pronouns and linking expressions only when their references and relationships are clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “printed newspapers,” “online platform,” “critical thinking” and “preserve the culture.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. Examples include “people are more on relying,” “reading a news,” and “eye radiation.” Spelling errors such as “convinient” and “nowadys” also reduce accuracy. Aim to use more precise expressions for comparing print and digital media, and check spelling and common word partnerships. For instance, describe online material as “free to access” and refer to “news articles” rather than “a news.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a reason clause beginning “This is because” and a contrast introduced by “although.” However, errors are frequent, and some complex sentences are difficult to follow. Verb forms and agreement are often inaccurate, as in “nobody purchase” and “it enhance”; articles and plurals are also problematic in “a news” and “a lot of elder people.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation need attention, particularly in the long sentence beginning “In the future generation.” Practise forming clear subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking agreement, articles and punctuation. This will help you express your ideas without making the reader work to interpret them.
