IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, it is often being said by the experts that, in future people will read news and books on a digital device instead of printed newspaper. Although it is more likely happening around the world today because of online news channels providing on the spot news and also, it has many benefits with less disavantages. I agree with this statement and I will discuss about this in below paragraphs.
Initially, there are several reasons and pros about online news services. Firstly, these online platform offers to watch and read the news completely free so people will save the money which they give to the newspaper boy. Also, the information is widely available all over the world and this could be one of major advantages because people from all countries will get the information and more people will aware of the situation. Furthermore, those online platform will provide systematic news with accurate depth in every sector such as news about sports, military, food based, important government news etc and this is the another reason why online platform will takeover traditional newspaper.
The another reason is visual representation of the news. It means a complete video or graphics will be provided to understand the news and this will help to the elder generation who cannot read much. Moreover it will forecast the weather with highest amount of accuracy than humans and will visually available to see the predictions. The people will get the news as early as possible and it will help them to know about the ground level situation on site with remotely on internet. These are the advantages and reasons that will help to know why the people will easily accept this new technology instead of an old method.
To conclude, I am fully agreed with the future change that says people will read everything online is very helpful and accesible for people and the benefits which will be provided by those online platforms could be a possible that people will not buy printed newspapers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that people will increasingly read online, and you give relevant reasons such as free access, wider availability and video or graphic presentation. However, the response addresses the prediction only partly. The prompt specifically claims that nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because online reading will be free, but your discussion focuses mainly on news and gives little attention to books or whether printed publications will disappear entirely. Some points, including weather forecasts and helping older people, are asserted rather than explained, and the conclusion does not fully resolve the absolute claim in the question. Develop the reasons with specific explanation and consider whether print may still have a role.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Ideas are generally grouped by topic, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with several points added in sequence rather than linked through explanation. The repeated framing of “another reason” and “advantages and reasons” also makes the organisation feel formulaic. Some references are unclear, for example “those online platform” and “this new technology,” because the wording does not consistently identify the subject. Improve cohesion by connecting each example to the main claim and using clearer references, rather than relying mainly on listing transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “digital device,” “visual representation,” “predictions” and “ground level situation,” which helps communicate your ideas about online news. There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “systematic news” and “accurate depth,” but these combinations are not natural in context and sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Several phrases are repetitive, particularly “online platform” and “news,” while spelling and word-form errors such as “disavantages” and “accesible” reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and vary key terms: for example, distinguish between digital news services, online publications and printed media. Proofreading spelling and choosing natural word partnerships would make your vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which” and “who.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include “these online platform offers,” “people will aware,” and “the another reason”; the opening sentence also has an awkward structure, while “I am fully agreed” uses an incorrect verb form. Some sentences combine several ideas without clear grammatical links, as in the sentence about information being available worldwide and people becoming aware of situations. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and verb patterns, then build longer sentences from clearly connected clauses. Careful punctuation and editing will also help.
