IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, people were more involved in replacing everthing with the technology and reducing the traditional way of reading newsapaper and some people opine that in future nobody will buy paper newspapers and books because people will get all these stuff online at free off cost and acessibility is more easier as compared to previous ways. I partially agree with this point of view because this claim has both the merits and dmerits. Let us further delve into the topic.
To begin with the advantages of reading the newspaper or books online. It has numerous benefits such as it is easily accesible to you whenever you want to read, you will read at your comfort zone without carrying stuff with you when you are outside somewhere or travelling. Another benefit is that you don't have to spent huge amount of money on buying physical materials. Also online platforms provide you a reviews section where you can read the reviews before reading it.
On the other hand, it has some drawbacks also like it will increase the screen time which leads to cause eye realted problems such as eye strain, dryness and eye twitching. Moreover, it will feel frustrated when you have to read for a longer period. Additionally, reading e books and newspaper online early in the morning is not a good habit or a nice start for the day. The biggest concern it that not everyone will be familiar with the use of technology specially your older generation, they are not comfortable with the use of technology that much, However, some indivials can't afford the devices like others do.
To Recapitulate, it is fantastic for doing advancement in technology and a great development for the economy and to reduce the environment waste by saving the paper, but it is not right way to replace it complete and leave both the options, let the people choose.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is that you partially agree, and the response addresses both the benefits of online reading and reasons printed materials may remain useful. Relevant points include convenience while travelling, lower costs, eye strain, older people’s familiarity with technology, and access to devices. This range supports a response at this level. However, some ideas are asserted rather than explained: for example, the point that reading online in the morning is “not a good habit” is not supported with a reason, and the environmental benefit in the conclusion is introduced without development. The discussion also focuses more on online reading’s pros and cons than directly examining whether printed books and newspapers will disappear. Develop the reasons behind your position and connect each example more explicitly to the future claim.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall shape: an introduction, a paragraph on advantages, a paragraph on drawbacks, and a concluding position. Signposting such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “To Recapitulate” helps readers follow the main stages. This coherent organisation is a strength. Some links, however, feel mechanical, and the opening of the advantages paragraph (“To begin with the advantages…”) is a fragment rather than a complete transition. Within paragraphs, ideas are often added one after another without showing how they relate; for instance, the reviews section follows the cost point without explanation. The conclusion also introduces environmental waste abruptly. Use fewer formulaic markers and add clearer links between claims, explanations, and examples to make progression more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “screen time,” “eye strain,” “physical materials,” “reviews section,” and “environment waste.” These choices make the subject clear, and phrases such as “partially agree” communicate your stance. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural collocations are noticeable, including “everthing,” “newsapaper,” “at free off cost,” “more easier,” and “reduce the environment waste.” Some wording is also vague, such as “all these stuff” and “doing advancement in technology.” These issues limit precision and sometimes make the reader pause, although the main meaning remains understandable. Check spelling carefully and learn common academic collocations, such as “available free of charge” and “make technological advances,” then use them accurately in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a contrast between advantages and drawbacks and a relative clause in “which leads to cause eye… problems.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are evident. For example, “people were more involved” uses an unsuitable tense for a general present-day trend, while “you don't have to spent” has an incorrect verb form. “It will feel frustrated” also has an unclear grammatical subject, and “it is not right way” is missing an article. The opening sentence is overloaded, making its relationships difficult to follow. Aim for shorter, controlled sentences first, and check tense, verb patterns, articles, and subject–verb relationships when editing.
