IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Yes, I am agree with this statement ''In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books beacuse they will be able to read everything they want online without paying''.

Reason: Because in the future people have not any time to go outside to buy books and newspapers. They will have to manage the time to go out for buying books due to responsibilities of other things its difficult to involve personally to buy books and newspapers. As we know that the world enters to the new techonology and making inventions day by day to get world by new techonolgy. People just put out thier mobiles and type what they want to study they just search on different websities to learn and it will be more easiser than to go outside to buy newspapers and books in my opnion and also have AI (Artificail Intelligence) who makes our life more easier what we want to know just open and ask instantly AI robot let us know about what we search for example in past 2 weeks I tried to make pizza by my self in home but I dont know what ingridients were added to make pizza first I thought I went to market and find out some recipe books then I thought its waste of time suddenly I just took my phone and browsing the recipe how to make pizza hundreds recipe were there. So I hundred percent agree with the given statement. In the same society some people think and have thier hobby to read books and newspapers may be they are not agree with this.

Overall5.0

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You take a clear position in favour of the statement and give relevant reasons, including the convenience of searching online and your example of finding a pizza recipe. However, the response only partially develops the task: it focuses mainly on convenience and does not adequately examine whether people will be able to access everything online without paying, or why printed books and newspapers might continue to be bought. The final point about people who enjoy reading print is introduced but not explained. The response is also 247 words, below the 250-word minimum; the 22 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop both sides of your position and add support for the key claims.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic line of thought: you state your agreement, give reasons and an example, then briefly acknowledge that some people prefer printed material. This gives the reader a general sense of your argument. However, the response is presented as one long paragraph, and ideas run together, especially in the section about technology, websites and AI. Connectors such as “Because,” “and also,” and “So” are repetitive or do not clearly show how one point relates to the next. The pizza example is relevant but takes up much of the response without a clear transition back to the essay question. Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons and qualification, and make each paragraph develop one main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “responsibilities,” “inventions,” “technology,” and “Artificial Intelligence,” and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “get world by new technology,” “different websities,” and “more easiser.” Spelling errors, including “beacuse,” “thier,” and “ingridients,” also make the writing less clear and polished. Aim for precise phrases that directly address the topic, such as online access, digital publications and printed media. Check spelling and word forms carefully, and avoid repeating “books and newspapers” when a suitable reference such as “printed publications” would be clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to express reasons and examples using longer sentences, but the range of structures is limited and many sentences contain errors that can make the reader work to understand them. For example, “I am agree with this statement” has an incorrect verb form, while “people have not any time” uses an inaccurate construction. The long sentence beginning “As we know that the world enters…” combines several ideas without reliable sentence boundaries, and “some people think and have their hobby” is difficult to follow grammatically. Use a mix of short, controlled sentences and carefully built complex sentences. Check subject–verb forms, articles and punctuation, and divide long sentences when they contain several separate points.
