IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
With the advancement in technology, it is argued that the trend of paper newspapers and books will end in the future. Nobody will want to buy their things, because the reading facilities will be opened in the future and it will be easy access to read online totally free of cost. I strongly agree with this statement but this point opposes the style of old generation.
In future there will be definately more advance technology, every reading stuff will be available online. instead of buying different books and newspapers, people will access to all of there in just one mobile. In future people will be able to save much time because they will not required to visit the market for just buying books and newspapers. It also has many positive impacts on the society. For example, in future less papers will be used for the making of books and newspaper will benefits the environment because of no more trees will be cut down. Moreover it will heps in economic growth as paper and trees will be uesd for other meaning purposes.
But on the other side, some old people do not like to read books and newspapers online on a digital screen. They only used to be read everything on books and newspapers. So this trend will not be carried by old people, Many young people also understand things more clearly which they read in hard copy. So trhe trend might be continued by many old people and some youngsters,
In conclusion the advancement in technology definately made books and newspapers less popular in future. But this trend went continued by many people which includes old people and some young youth because of their interest in reading things physically.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you strongly agree that online access will reduce demand for printed books and newspapers, while acknowledging that some people will continue to prefer physical copies. You address both the predicted shift and a counterpoint, and the environmental and convenience benefits are relevant. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, you say fewer paper products will benefit the environment and support economic growth, but the link between using paper and trees for “other meaning purposes” is unclear. The discussion of older readers and young people’s preference for hard copies is also brief. Develop these ideas with clearer explanations or examples, and clarify whether you agree completely or expect printed media to remain a niche choice.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting online reading, a paragraph presenting reservations, and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow your main position. You also use signposts such as “Moreover,” “But on the other side,” and “In conclusion.” At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear, and some references are difficult to follow. For instance, “all of there” does not clearly identify what people can access, while the shift from environmental benefits to economic growth needs a more explicit link. The final paragraph repeats the main points rather than bringing them together. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to the claim it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “advancement in technology,” “digital screen,” “hard copy,” and “economic growth,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes meaning unclear. Examples include “reading facilities will be opened,” “access to all of there,” and “other meaning purposes.” Spelling errors such as “definately,” “heps,” and “uesd” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise phrases and check spelling carefully. For example, describe online material as “available free of charge” and say that readers can “access a wide range of publications on one device.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional-style explanation of future benefits and a contrast between online and printed reading. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction make parts difficult to read. For example, “people will not required to visit” needs a correctly formed verb, and “newspaper will benefits the environment” has problems with number and verb agreement. The sentence beginning “So this trend will not be carried by old people” is also awkwardly constructed. Practise forming future statements consistently and check subject–verb agreement and complete sentence structure. More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument clearer.
