IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 4.5)

In the modern era people have no enough time to explore other things due to their busy routines. They have no much time for the leisure activities or physical activities.

In recent days people have not too much but have some time for the other activities like playing, exploring or reading but nowadays public are busy in their different kinds of works due to their busy routine. But in future people wll be able to explore anything online or read newspapers and books instaed of reading books in hands. They can use their phones or tablets for this kind of activity. I will agree this is happening very soon and everyone like to read online insted of going to the bookshops or libraries.

People can save thier much time while reading the newspapers and books oline while travelling or when they going at work. In my opinions it is very beneficial for those who follow very tough routine and it is fully free which is very best for people who do not able to pay for that. But with the benefits i am also disagree with suck kind of disadvantages like people may become lazy and they will stop going to the libraries and in a social circle which is not much beneficial for them. People cannot explore much things on their phones or labtops instead of becoming a part of social network or people.

In my opinions, it is very best to read online for those who do not manage their time for these kind of activities instead of going to libraries ant the worth thing about that is it is fully free.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear general view that you agree people will increasingly read online, and you mention relevant benefits such as convenience while travelling and free access. You also introduce a counterpoint about reduced library use and social interaction. However, the response only partially addresses the exact claim: it does not clearly discuss whether *nobody* will buy printed books or newspapers, and the idea that online reading will be free is asserted rather than explained. Your position also shifts when you say, “I will agree” but later “I am also disagree,” leaving the extent of your agreement uncertain. Develop two or three reasons with specific examples, and state consistently whether print will disappear entirely or simply become less popular.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has separate paragraphs and a recognisable movement from people’s routines to online reading, its benefits and drawbacks, and a concluding preference. However, the progression is difficult to follow because ideas are repeated and some links are unclear. The opening about busy routines is repeated in the next paragraph, while the final paragraph largely restates that online reading is best and free. Connect each paragraph to a distinct point, and use clearer transitions to show how the counterargument relates to your position. References such as “that” in “it is fully free” are not always precise, and phrases such as “In my opinions” recur without helping the argument advance.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “newspapers,” “libraries,” “tablets,” “social circle,” and “beneficial.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the reader pause. Examples include “no much time,” “busy in their different kinds of works,” and “explore much things.” Spelling errors such as “instaed,” “thier,” and “ol ine” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and avoid repeating broad words such as “things” and “best.” For instance, explain what people gain from digital access rather than relying on general claims that it is “very beneficial.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a contrast between benefits and disadvantages, and the main message is generally understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently, particularly in sentence construction, verb forms, articles, and agreement. For example, “people have no enough time” and “people may become lazy and they will stop going” show problems with grammatical patterns, while “when they going at work” lacks a correctly formed verb phrase. The sentence beginning “But with the benefits…” is also difficult to control. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with clauses using “because,” “although,” and “while.”
