IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is expected that printed newspapers and book will become less popular because everyone will have the facility to read everything on phones on computers without spendind any money. I completely agree with this view because it can be seen everywhere nowadays. In the following paragraphs, I will give certain reasons of my agreement with possible examples.
To begin with, people are becoming more and more dependant on their mobile phone and this is decreasing their contact with printed material. For example, we use phones for everything like studying, working, shoppoing, travelling and also communicating with others. Further, we prefer phone for reading purpose also because they are easily accessible and convenient. Consequently, the value of newspapers and books will decrease in the near future.
Additionally, individuals give priority to phones for reading anything or being aware of the political news because newspaper and books require additional time and money. For instance, if a person wants to read any novel or story, he can search for it on Youtube where he not only read it but also be able to watch the full story in the form pof movie without paying. As a result, there will be hardly any person who buys newspaper or any book for reading.
On the other hand, newspapers and books have their own value and significance for some old age people. Adding to, many olds prefered reading newspapers and it reflected the tradition of any country. But, nowadays most of the youngs consider newspapers or books waste of time and money.
To sum up, although newspapers and books were valuable in the past, it is projected that there significance and value will decrease in the coming future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that online access will reduce demand for printed material. You give relevant reasons, including the convenience of phones and the time and cost associated with newspapers and books, and you acknowledge a counterpoint about older readers. However, the claim that people can read “everything” online for free is accepted rather than examined, and the YouTube example is not fully convincing because it shifts from reading a story to watching a film. The point about older people and tradition is also brief and does not explain how it affects your overall view. Develop these ideas with more precise support and address the absolute claim in the prompt more directly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a counterpoint and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally focus on one main idea, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Additionally” and “To sum up” help readers follow the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “On the other hand” introduces a qualification, but the paragraph does not clearly explain how it relates to your complete agreement. “Adding to” is also an awkward transition, and “As a result” makes a stronger conclusion than the example supports. Use transitions that express the precise relationship between ideas, and make the counterpoint’s role in your argument explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You communicate the main ideas using relevant vocabulary such as “convenient,” “accessible,” “political news” and “significance.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce precision: “dependant,” “shoppoing,” “pof,” “prefered” and “youngs.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “for reading purpose,” “old age people” and “the coming future.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they make it less fluent and precise. Build a wider set of natural expressions for discussing digital media and print, and check spelling and common word partnerships carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a reason clause (“because it can be seen everywhere nowadays”) and a concession beginning “although.” Most sentences communicate their basic meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “printed newspapers and book” has a number-agreement problem, “without spendind any money” uses an incorrect verb form after “without,” and “he can search for it … where he not only read it” shifts between verb forms and has unclear agreement. The final sentence also has an incorrect possessive construction in “there significance.” Review plural agreement, verb forms after prepositions, and consistent subject–verb patterns. More accurate control of these structures would make your argument easier to read.
