IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays technology increaing rapidly, while some argued that in the future nobody will buy newspapers or books becasue they will be able to read everything they want online whithout pay. I largely disagree that because online reading will become more popular, but printed books and newspapers will not disappear completely. Although, online reading is convenient, printed materials will became popular because online content is not free.
Online reading is convenient and can save money. People can access articles, books, adn news on thier phones or computers. They do not need to visit a shop or carry heavy books. Nowadays, people can watch news online rather than pay for newspapers and books. For example, students can read free educaton articles in the internet instead if buying several books. Moreover, in current situation children make heavy bags with books to carry and go to school or college. but with technology students just carry laptops or ipads to learn easily. furthermore, Educational content is widely available on the social media apps such as YouTube everybody can watch eduational videos or entertainment content. As a result, in the future people will use more social media and news online rather than reading books.
However, Some people prefer printed books, and not everthing online is free. Readers may find printed books easier to concentrate on. Some online books require payment or subscription, and internet access is not always available. For instance, some students prefer using printed textbooks because they can underline important information and take notes directly on the pages. Moreover, Frequently using the mobile or laptop screen can effects the eyesight. furthermore, spending time on screen can affects the mental health and reduce the students productivity. As a result, Online learning is popular nowadays but printed learning will not disappear completely.
In conclusion, I largely disagree with the view that printed newspapers and books will disappear completely. Although, reading online is convenient and often cheaper, many people still prefer printed materials, some digital content is now available free of charge.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you largely disagree that printed books and newspapers will disappear, and you address both the convenience of online reading and reasons print may remain. Relevant support includes students accessing online material and readers using printed textbooks to underline and annotate. This meets the task well, with some elements of a more developed response already present. However, the discussion is uneven: the points about eyesight and mental health are asserted rather than explained, and the argument that digital content is not free is introduced but not supported with a specific example. Develop these ideas and distinguish more clearly between newspapers and books, since the prompt asks about both.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present contrasting considerations, and the conclusion restates your position. Examples generally follow the points they support. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, particularly through repeated use of “Moreover,” “furthermore,” and “As a result.” Some links are also unclear: the claim that online content is not free appears in the introduction and conclusion but is not developed in the body, while the final sentence of the conclusion seems to suggest that some digital content is free, which weakens the connection to your position. Use fewer repeated linkers and make each paragraph’s progression explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “subscription,” “printed textbooks,” “concentrate,” and “underline important information.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “educational content” and “mental health.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations are noticeable, for example “increaing,” “whithout pay,” “make heavy bags,” and “in the internet.” Repetition of “online,” “books,” and “students” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; more precise phrasing would make your argument clearer and more natural without changing its meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “Although online reading is convenient…” and a conditional-style explanation of how students use digital devices. Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors occur across sentence structures and verb forms. For example, “printed books and newspapers will not disappear” is followed by “will became popular,” and “screen can effects” and “spending time on screen can affects” show problems with verb patterns and agreement. There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary issues, such as beginning “but” and “furthermore” after full stops with inconsistent capitalization. Practise forming accurate clauses and checking subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and punctuation.
