IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the digital world, many individuals consider that newspapers and books will no longer in use and nobody will purchase them in the future, while others hold an opposite view. The main reason of this opinion is technological development. From my standpoint, printed newspapers and books will be replaced by technology, due to its cost.
To begin with, getting information or education from online is inexpensive and people do not have to waste money on buying them. To reinforce my idea, social media gives public a crucial opportunity to understand news and learners are provided with a valuable ability by e-books to acquire knowledge without paying. Furthermore, using technology is more beneficial, due to the fact that they are not as heavy as books. Ultimately, using online platforms instead of newspapers and books are more affordable, flexible and comfortable for society.
Secondly, society should realize that although using technology to acquire knowledge has vital benefits, it can have a detrimental effect on human well-being, so they should try to maintain books and newspapers. To illustrate this, excessive use of online platforms can lead to stiff neck or damaging eye sightness. Nowadays, more people struggle with eye problem. Also, this trend can cause addiction on technology, which will trigger interaction issues in the near future. As a result, people need to understand that using online to have information can affect negatively on them, and they need to keep using books and magazines.
To conclude, there is a high chance of dissapearing books and newspapers in thy future, because of online platforms flexibility; however, they can be kept to maintain good health conditions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is identifiable: you expect online access to replace printed materials mainly because it is cheaper, while acknowledging health-related reasons to retain print. This addresses the question, and the examples of social media, e-books, eye strain and neck problems are relevant. However, the response does not fully examine the statement’s specific claim that people will be able to read everything online without paying. The first body paragraph supports free access, but does not consider whether all books and newspapers will actually be available at no cost. The second paragraph also shifts from predicting what people will buy to arguing that they should continue using print. Develop these points more evenly and explain how the counterargument affects your overall degree of agreement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Secondly” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow, and each body paragraph has a recognisable central focus. This meets the requirement for coherent organisation. Some connections are nevertheless mechanical or unclear: “To reinforce my idea” introduces examples without showing precisely how they support the prediction, while “Ultimately” repeats the affordability point rather than advancing the argument. The shift from predicting that print will disappear to saying people “need to keep using books” also weakens the progression. Use more precise links between claims and evidence, and make the relationship between your two positions explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “technological development,” “online platforms,” “acquire knowledge,” “detrimental effect” and “addiction.” These choices help communicate both the advantages of digital reading and its possible drawbacks. There are also several inaccurate or unnatural expressions that limit precision, such as “newspapers and books will no longer in use,” “the main reason of this opinion,” and “eye sightness.” Spelling slips such as “dissapearing” and “thy” are noticeable, though the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Aim for more natural collocations and accurate word forms; for example, describe print as “falling out of use” and refer to “eye strain” or “vision problems.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. You attempt subordinate clauses with “although” and “because,” and the sentence beginning “To illustrate this” shows an effort to explain a consequence. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “will no longer in use” is missing a verb, and “using online platforms instead of newspapers and books are” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “people do not have to waste money on buying them,” the pronoun reference is unclear, and “people struggle with eye problem” needs a plural or an article. Review verb forms, agreement, articles and pronoun reference, while continuing to use complex structures and checking each sentence for accuracy.
