IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the future nobody would buy newspapers and books because of availablity to read them online without even paying.I partially agree with the statement because getting them online without cost would be limited.

Newspapers and books of any interest will be available online easily in future.Depending on their mood any person could choose to read newspapers and books of personal interests rather than the basic avaiable in homes. For Instance, many people who wanted to get different opinions can now easily search and get the related one.Newspapers And Books could be gathered easily.

Online Platforms are also making paid versions giving monthly and weekly subscriptions with more details that is why i partially agree.Information could be gathered easily but the money cost could increase.Even some platforms have make their daily paid version like the versions available at homes. For Instance, platfroms like major newspapers and books holding websites such as the guardian,al jazeera etc have made their paid version which sometime could be more costly than home available ones.

In Conclusion, both advantages and disadvantages are seen clearly but i partially agree making information gathering succesful and easy. However its paid

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You state a position—“I partially agree”—and give relevant points about easy online access and paid subscriptions. However, the response only partially addresses the question: it does not clearly explain whether printed newspapers and books will stop being bought, and the reasons are brief or unclear. For example, “Newspapers and Books could be gathered easily” does not show how online access would replace print purchases. The discussion of paid platforms is relevant, but the examples are not developed enough to support your view. The response is also 65 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to explain and support your ideas. Develop a clear argument about both online reading and the continued appeal or cost of print, using specific explanations and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

Your response has a basic structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The paragraphs broadly separate online availability from paid subscriptions, and linking expressions such as “For instance” and “In Conclusion” help signal relationships. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. The first body paragraph moves from future availability to personal interests and then to “different opinions” without clearly connecting these points to whether people will buy print. The conclusion is incomplete, ending with “However its paid,” so it does not bring the argument to a clear close. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main point, connect examples explicitly to that point, and finish with a complete summary of your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “monthly and weekly subscriptions,” “paid versions,” and “different opinions.” This is enough to communicate the general subject, but the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or repeated, such as “available online easily,” “gathered easily,” and “information could be gathered easily.” Spelling errors—including “availablity,” “avaiable,” “platfroms,” and “succesful”—are noticeable and can distract the reader. Some phrases also do not express the intended meaning clearly, particularly “Newspapers and books could be gathered easily.” Aim for more precise language to describe access, purchasing, and the continued use of print, and check spelling carefully during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentence forms, including “I partially agree with the statement because…” and “that is why I partially agree,” but the range remains limited and errors occur frequently. For example, “some platforms have make their daily paid version” has an incorrect verb form, while “nobody would buy” shifts from the task’s future prediction without a clear reason. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent: several sentences run together, as in “without even paying.I partially agree,” and the final sentence is incomplete. These issues sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to understand. Practise forming accurate complex sentences with because, although, and while, and check verb forms, sentence endings, and capitalization.
