IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is predicted that in upcoming years newspapers or books will be vanished as majority of people have all the information available on internet without paying any extra fee. I will discuss both point of views and will share my point of view.
As far as physical presence of books or newspapers is considered, it cannot be fully replaced by online available information. Many people still prefer having a book to read rather than viewing it on screen. Longer stay on screen cause stress on eyes and fatigue. Books are handy and if some one is travelling and they have an interent issue than book or any magazine is an excellent resource for a good time pass and learning as well.
Due to the technological advancement everything is available on finger tips and there are so many online options available for all kind of information and entertainment. Everyone can read his or her favourite genre online at their own pace of time.
Further more, schools are also shifting from physical books to online learning techniques. So the younger generations will also be handy on online learning instead of printed books. It also save cost of books purchase. But there are drawbacks of online learning as it have alot of distractions like social media platforms and no one can resist themselves from watching it. We might take mobile for learning purpose and it will be ended by consuming unrelevant content.
In my opinion balanced use of both mode of information should be exercised, as books have concrete and structured information all together in one place while on internet some one have to research about the specific topic. Consequently alot of infomation or data is available online for evryone without charging any extra fee and it also save space for book keeping.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your response addresses the central issue and gives a recognisable position: you argue that printed materials will not disappear entirely and conclude that both formats should be used. Relevant support includes eye strain from screens, the usefulness of books when travelling, and the cost and distraction issues associated with online learning. However, the discussion does not fully examine the claim that people will be able to read everything online for free; the final paragraph briefly acknowledges free online information but does not weigh this against the continued demand for paid books or newspapers. The point about schools moving online is relevant, but its connection to future purchasing habits needs clearer explanation. Develop these comparisons and make your degree of agreement explicit from the introduction onward.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, discussion of printed materials, advantages and drawbacks of online access, and a concluding opinion. Paragraphs generally have a central focus, and linking expressions such as “Further more,” “But,” and “Consequently” help signal relationships between ideas. At times, however, the progression is mechanical or the connection between points is not fully clear. For example, the shift from online learning in schools to social-media distractions is understandable, but the link to whether people will buy newspapers or books could be made more explicit. The conclusion also introduces the idea of saving space without developing it earlier. Use clearer transitions between the task’s main issues and ensure each paragraph advances the comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “technological advancement,” “physical books,” “online learning techniques,” and “distractions.” These choices allow you to discuss both formats and their practical effects. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the writing less natural, as in “books will be vanished,” “all the information available on internet,” and “good time pass.” There are also repeated broad terms such as “information” and “online,” which limit precision. Aim to learn common collocations and check spelling carefully; for instance, “unrelevant” and “evryone” weaken otherwise understandable points. More precise vocabulary for purchasing, access, and reading habits would help express the argument more flexibly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and subordinate clauses, as in “if some one is travelling…” and “as books have concrete and structured information…”. The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors recur in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “Longer stay on screen cause stress,” “It also save cost,” and “as it have alot of distractions.” The opening sentence, “newspapers or books will be vanished,” also uses an incorrect passive form. These errors do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy and make some sentences awkward. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, countable nouns and articles, and revise complex sentences to ensure each clause is grammatically complete.
