IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is the matter of debate among certain individuals that the demand for printed material like news articals as well as books will decrease substantially in upcoming era, because people will access all the information through internet networking sites. I consider that majority will consider reading online but some readers may perfer old traditional methods

Firstly, online material allows people to save their expenditures because majority of online websites offer people to grasp the material with out any cost. This will save cost and people can use this saved amount in other usefull chores. For instance, a student who buy a book from market by paying huge money can get same book on internet in pdf form with out any cost. Additionally, books in the form of pdf also require little space in system's memory. This will allow people to save multiple books at a time on a device rather then keeping them physically, as printed books occupie a lot of space.Thi results in freeing up space for which can be used for futher tasks. Moreover, people can access all inforamtion remotely on a single platform rether than visiting libraries and book shop. This reduce physical effort and provide convenience. As a result people can save time and utilize this time into another usefull activity

Following this, reading online can cause distractions because of continueously receiving notifications. This can divert the attention of a reader and make him frustrated and make it difficult to concentrate for ong time. As a result, he may give up reading. For instance, an student may face difficulty understanding the main purpose of a text if he is reading online as some notifications may hinder in his work. Morever, people may have obstacles in looking towards screen for a longer time because of some medical issues such as eyeside weakness. So looking on screen for a specific period time can create problems for them that's why they will prefer to read from printed materials in the future as well.

To sum up, although multiple individuals in this era are considering online reading becasue of cost benefits as well as accessibilty of wider information at one palce alongside with convenience, but for some people it may create distrctions and some may abolish this beacuse of any medical issue

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you expect online reading to become more common, while printed materials will remain useful for some people. You address both sides with relevant reasons, including cost, storage and convenience, as well as screen-related distraction and eye problems. The examples of a student accessing a PDF and notifications interrupting reading help make the points concrete. This meets the task well, but some ideas are more fully explained than others: the benefits of online access are developed across several points, whereas the reasons some readers will retain print are less fully explored. To strengthen the response, explain more directly whether you agree that nobody will buy printed books or newspapers, and develop the continuing value of print beyond health concerns.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present contrasting considerations, and a conclusion restates the main position. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Following this,” and “To sum up” make the progression easy to follow. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and several ideas are joined in long sentences with limited punctuation, particularly in the first body paragraph. The conclusion also combines several points in one sentence, making the final contrast less clear. Some references, such as “this” in “This reduce physical effort,” could identify their subject more precisely. Use a wider range of linking methods and divide related points into clearer sentences to make the organisation more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “expenditures,” “notifications,” “convenience,” and “medical issues,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “access all information remotely.” However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable throughout, including “articals,” “perfer,” “occupie,” and “eyeside.” Some combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “use this saved amount in other useful chores” and “abolish this” for stopping online reading. These errors limit precision and sometimes make the reader pause. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations, especially for discussing costs, reading habits, and health effects.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “as,” and “if,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some sentences are controlled, such as “This can divert the attention of a reader and make him frustrated.” However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction recur. For example, “a student who buy” needs subject–verb agreement, “This reduce physical effort” needs a matching verb form, and “an student” uses the wrong article. Several sentences also run together without clear punctuation, especially around “space.Thi results” and “tasks.Moreover.” These issues show that complex structures are not yet consistently controlled. Review agreement and articles, and proofread sentence boundaries.
