IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that printed newspapers or books will no longer because of the availability of free online reading materials. It is true that printed publications may reduce due to the free reading resources and accessible information. I desagree that printed publications will completely disapper from the market.
On the one hand, the increasing availabilty of free online content may reduce the demand for printed newspapers or books. Nowadays, people can access news websites, digital libraries and educational resources through their smartphones and computers. This is often more convenient than purchasing physical copies, speacially for students and people who want to save money. Furthermore, online information can be updated instantly, allowing readers to stay infromed about recent events without buying newspaper everyday.
On the another hand, I believe printed newspapers and books will continue to attract readers for several reasons. Many people prefer reading phydical copies because they find them more comfortable. They enjoy the experience of turning pages. Physical materials also can be useful when readers want to avoid screen time and try to stay concentrat without digital distractiopns. Moreover, not all online content is free, as some digital publications and newspapers require subscriptions. Therefore, although digital media may increasingly popular, it unlikely to reduce every ptinted publications.
In conclusion, free online reading materials will probably reduce the number of people who purchase printed newspapers or books. However, I believe that physical publications will continue to have a place in society because of the readers preference and the limitations of free digital contents.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I disagree” that printed publications will disappear—and it remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both the impact of free online material and reasons print may survive, including convenience, screen fatigue, and subscription fees. These are relevant points, but some are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, you mention that physical books help readers “stay concentrat” without digital distractions, but do not develop who benefits or why this preference is likely to endure. The point about paid subscriptions also qualifies the prompt’s claim that everything will be available free, but could be linked more directly to continued print purchases. More specific explanation or an example would make the argument more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “On the one hand” and “On the another hand,” and a conclusion that restates your view. Ideas generally progress logically within each paragraph, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “Moreover” help show relationships. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. However, some transitions feel formulaic, and a few connections could be made more precise. For instance, the move from readers’ preference for physical copies to avoiding screen time is understandable but would benefit from an explicit explanation of how this supports the survival of print. Check referencing and phrasing in the final sentence as well, so the conclusion’s reasons connect smoothly to the argument developed above.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “digital libraries,” “physical copies,” “screen time,” “subscriptions,” and “digital media.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and phrases such as “updated instantly” are appropriate to the topic. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes distract the reader: “desagree,” “disapper,” “availabilty,” “phydical,” and “ptinted” appear in key parts of the essay. There are also awkward or inaccurate combinations, such as “free reading resources” and “reduce every printed publications.” Aim to check spelling carefully and learn natural collocations for discussing demand and publication formats. Greater precision in these phrases would make your vocabulary more effective without requiring unnecessarily advanced words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “although,” and “when,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some sentence patterns are controlled, such as “online information can be updated instantly, allowing readers to stay…” However, errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction recur. Examples include “printed newspapers or books will no longer” (the verb needs a complement), “on the another hand,” “digital media may increasingly popular,” and “it unlikely to reduce.” The final phrase “the readers preference” also needs a possessive form. Review how to form clauses with “although,” use articles and possessives, and ensure each sentence has a complete verb structure. These corrections would improve accuracy while preserving your range.
